I'm working on a DEX build Elf Rune Knight. Planning to take Revenant Blade feat at level 4, so his "inherited" Double Bladed Scimitar can really do it's thing. Already 17 DEX, so that will take him to 18 with that feat, then I can max DEX at level 6.
I'm assuming I can still do the Frost Rune / Giant Might knock an enemy prone route, right? I assume I can Shove with the middle part of the weapon - or, trip them with the unsharp edge? I have no desire to become the Grappler, but could in a pinch. Honestly, this makes the most sense after I have Extra Attack, anyway... and knocking someone prone with ranged friends can be a no-no. Would probably want to bump STR with other ASIs.
I know this is an older post, and some thing may have changed since then, but in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, the Hill Giant rune isn't available until 7th level, so any mention of it at 3rd level is no longer valid :(
The runes available at 3rd level are: Cloud, Fire, Frost, and Stone. 7th level: Hill and Storm.
Just wanted to clear up some details for anyone 'new' reading this topic.
A tortle bladesinger. He doesn’t need shields, because bladesong gives +5 AC anyways. If push comes to shove there is still the shield spell. Five levels in rune knight for action surge and another attack, warcaster feat and the rest bladesinger. With shadow blade as the second weapon and TWF, the damage goes nuts.

Bladesinger already get an extra attack at level 6, which will not stack with the fighter 5 extra attack. Two levels of fighter isn’t awful, but 5 is. A 5-level dip will destroy your spell progression, shutting you out of high level spells. From what I’ve heard about bladesingers, once they start getting higher spells, they end up playing like regular wizards. The choice is, I can swing my sword at one person, or fireball a half dozen.

There are a lot of ways to play a bladesinger. From a pure power perspective I would agree about not taking Bladesinger levels, but Rune Knight will give you Runes and 6 levels is 2 Feats. You have most of the spells you want for melee by Bladesinger level 6. You lose out on contingency but the rest are not that necessary.

I have a fun new character:

You don’t need high INT for runes. You need high CON saving throw DCs
