Care to go further? I have a Dex based battlemaster halfling that is also a cleaver beast. No one expects a 2'8", 35 lb small character to control a battle field, but being able to move through others is amazing for getting around. And I have him specialized in Athletics to wrestle and shield bash away.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.
Similar concept here. Dwarf Battlemaster with a single dip in Rogue (to represent his cunning & clever fighting style). Took Shield Master at level 4 became a prone-machine.
Currently running a DEX-based psi-kinight vanilla human with rapier and shield as my main weapons. He's a proper NE bastard, motivated by greed and lust for power, but he values his teammates as much as he values his weapons, armour and magic items, convinced that true path to greatness could be achieved only through teamwork. We're playing in Eberron, and he's Cyran, so it's fairly standard for Cyrans to be on "stronger together" mindset.
Got my hands on the headband of Intellect, so my shields are very solid, negating almost half of the damage our part gets. The fact our other tank is a Beast path barbarian with maxed STA and can heal himself for 5 HP every turn means our cleric and druid can focus on killing shit instead of keeping the front-line alive.
The biggest drawback of DEX-build for a rank fighter is inability to wrestle and knock down people, but thankfully I got Telekinetic as my level 6 fest to kinda simulate the Athletics shenanigans and do it as a bonus actions instead of wasting an attack, although it's not nearly as reliable as real grappling. The trick I came up with is to jump over the target's head and force pull him up - if I roll anything but 1 on my psi die and the target fails his STR save he'd take fall damage and land prone. While telekinetic shove is less reliable than wrestling people it does push them further when it works, and if we fight indoords or narrow srtreets I often push people into the spiky green hell our Druid creates in chokepoints so they spend two or three turns crawling out of it while leaving shunks of their HP on the spikes. If Druid is concentrating on summoned animals I can create discount spikes myself with caltrops. In fact almost every member of our team can create some hazardous ground with caltrops, rope traps, bear traps, mold-earth wolfpits, etc, so when we have the time to prepare the battlefield it's downright unfair, which I guess why GM throws enemies way out of our league at us in these cases.
Recently got two Eldritch Claw tattoos from the magic tattoos UA, and although I only used it in two fights so far the ability to stab people across the room with extra dice of damage to boot is just fantastic.

He got an Armor class of 20 (splint, shield, and defense Fighting style), Battleaxe, and the fact that hes resistant to cold damage is really useful. Pretty intimidating, too, next to My half orc Paladin.

also have rogue, 2 actually, both halforcs (i like Halforcs) one is lvl 8 Arcane Trickster other is lvl 6 thief both good at fighting as well not the sneaky type fighting, the Charge in With a Warrhammer (arcane trickster) and attack with wyvern poisoned daggers (thief)

What other classes in your Party? i have 23 people in my party and were unstoppable. we have a sorcerer who gained 50,000 xp from Deck of many things, hes lvl 17 and he kinda carries us, destroying all our enemies with Meteor Swarm, while i just stay back and hit the Goblins with my battleaxe.

we get things way out of our league as well, just fought an Ancient blue dragon.

Goblin Rogue/Assassin, ridiculously deadly with his autocrits from ambush, also can brew poisons from the herbs our Druid collects. Actually a spy for Darguun (goblinoid nation) who pretends to be a smuggler who pretends to be a merchant.
BeastHide Shifter Barbarina on the Path of teh Beast. Maxed CON and +2 tower shield, never seen him below half HP. Not really big on damage dealing, his shtick is wrestlng people down for the rest of us to kill. An old grey-furred bear of a man (quite literally), who seeks to die with honor doing something awesome before the old age robs him of his strength.
Wildhunt Shifter Druid of Dreams, the keeper of nearby forest who joined us recently to wipe out a cell of Karina undead tainting his land. We like to joke about him being "circle of vietkong" as he prefers creating hell jungles wherever we fight or summoning constrictor snakes to hold multiple opponents at once.
HighElf Undying Warlock, a utility character who's not as useful in combat, mostly casting hex and eldritch blasitng things that need to be finished, but he knows EVERY SINGLE RITUAL up to level 3. He's a noble on a quest to prove himself by destroying the necromancer who's our antagonist. Hilariously his patron is his unedead granma.
HightElf Priest of The Grave, our main healer, although he preffers to heal people who get to 0. He's warlocks paige/retainer. Not very interested in the whole "provin yourself" shtick and is there to make sure hsi charge don't get killed on his quest, while also following every above average skirt on his way and generally enjoing life. Hates dragons with fiery passion, which is a problem, since we have an "enemy of my enemy" deal with an adult dragon our BBEG robbed in the past.

thats a good amount of detail, i just put a list. thanks!!!!
out of the 23 characters in our party, i control 5:
lvl 8 half-orc Arcane trickster, he has the most hit points I've ever seen on a rogue under lvl 10 (74) before my Paladin and Fighter came along he was the main fighter, and before my warlock came along, he was the main spellcaster too.
lvl 6 half-orc Thief, 48 hit points, good for the theives Guild missions he is a ridiculous fighting force as well, with poisoned Daggers, that deal 1d4 +3 piercing plus 52 poison on a fail DC18 CON saving throw.
lvl 5 half-orc Warlock, 34 hit points, powerful spellcaster, good for combat as well. Poison spray and Eldritch blast serve me well.
lvl 4 half-orc Paladin, 37 hit points, main healer, (sad, right?) good fighter as well, ideal tank, along with my Fighter, they just go in with swords and axes ready, AC 18.
lvl 1 goliath Fighter, 12 hit points, SPECTACULAR tank, AC 20, just murders the goblin hordes.
there was also a half-orc thug, lvl 5, 74 hit points, best tank ive ever had, but he got squished by a dragon carcass. NOT EVEN DYING IN THE FIGHT!!!!!!!
I have a Goliath Fighter and he is an absolute BEAST
