Hi everyone. Now published in homebrew is the Joy Luck Monk. Its basically geared towards party buffing and stunning strike so there is no extra damage built into this build.
I would appreciate feedback on design, playability/fun factor, theme, power level or anything else. Enjoy!
Joy Luck Monk
A Joy Luck Monk likes to have fun and bring happiness to others. Life is hard after all, why waste time dwelling on the negative? The Joy Luck Monk believes that everything is interconnected and all is one. Meditation is used to experience this interconnection with all of life as a means to experience true joy and happiness. While in these elevated states of being the Joy Luck Monk is so connected with all of life that he or she can use their chi to tap into the flow of reality and shift probable outcomes of events towards the positive or negative. A Joy Luck Monk will usually shift probable outcomes in favor of those who are happy and kind hearted. Detrimental outcomes will be shifted towards those who are mean or unjust in order to magnify their karma.
Bend Luck
At 3rd level you can use your chi to increase the luck of you and your allies or decrease the luck of your enemies. You can use 1ki point to cast Bless or Bane without material components. When you cast either spell you can spend one additional ki point to cast the spell at a spell level equal to your proficiency bonus. Targets save against your Martial Arts save dc for Bane.
Moment of Synchronicity
At 3rd level you can use your chi to see how seemingly unrelated events can combine to create opportunities for success. Spend 1ki point as a bonus action to target yourself or another creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. Add double your proficiency bonus to any one one ability check you or the target makes before the end of your next turn.
Karma is Calling
At 6th level when you cause a creature to make a saving throw against your martial arts save dc, you can roll one martial arts die (no action required) and subtract the number rolled from the creatures saving throw. This must be done before the creature makes the saving throw. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and no more than once on each of your turns. You regain all uses on a short or long rest.
Serendipitous Swerve
At 11th level you gain brief insights into the next moment to avoid potential harm. When you are hit with an attack roll you can use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to your armor class thereby causing the attack to potentially miss you.
Favor of the Fates
At 17th level you can shift the flow of reality around one individual so events will occur to their benefit. Spend 2 ki points as a bonus action to target yourself or another willing creature you can see within 30 feet of you. For one minute the target gains advantage on attack rolls, saving throws and ability checks. You can use this feature once and regain the use on a short or long rest.
Bend Luck: for upcasting is it 1 Ki point per extra level of upcasting? As written 1 additional Ki to cast it at 6th level (targeting 8 creatures) at high level seems overly cheap.
Karma is Calling: I wonder if it should come back on only on a long rest. It’s strong to use every time you try a stunning strike (at least once per turn). At the same time it is limited use already. One option is it comes back on long rest and after you use it PB times for free, you can use it for 1 Ki. I’m on the fence about this as I hate how many things use Ki on the monk already.
Serendipitous Swerve: is there a limit? I know it uses your reaction, so you can only use it once per round, but that seems like a lot. But I like the ability.
Favor of the Fates: 2 Ki might be low. Maybe 3 Ki? It last for 1 minute and it affects attacks, saving throws, and ability checks so is quite powerful.
Overall, at a quick glance these were my thoughts. I could be off, but wanted to give some feedback.
Bend luck upcast can be changed to "spend 1ki point to upcast at half your proficiency bonus." That caps it at a level 3 spell.
How about swapping level 6 and 11 abilities? I thought reducing saving throws on stunning strike was also strong for level six. The Idea was inspired by eloquence bard inspiration die which resets on a short rest at level 5. Stunning strike is potent at level 6 anyways but it does drop off after level 11 so maybe make that the level 11 ability and serendipitous swerve level 6 ability?
Serendipitous swerve - yes, unlimited uses with no ki cost. Like defensive duelist feat. In general i think monks could use more abilities like this.
Favor of fates - 3ki points instead of two is totally reasonable.

Interesting idea for a monk.
