Hey there, i'm looking for feedback on my attempt to make my ideal monk subclass. It's a shadow / battlemaster subclass centered around grappling. I've long wanted and thought it made sense that a monk should be good at grappling. Unlike the battlemaster, every maneuver requires the player to first spend an attack to successfully grapple the target, then another attack to pull off a maneuver. In addition, almost every maneuver incurs a penalty on the player if they fail the second grapple check. Is this too harsh?
There was a bonus action grapple attempt given at third level. I might reword that to say "you can replace you bonus action unarmed strike or any unarmed strike granted by Flurry of blows with a grapple attempt." If you want a good grappler, may as well give the most chance possible.
I don't think it's necessary for creatures to have a reaction attack against you. That's a bit much. A feature either works or it doesn't. that's enough. No need to penalize if it does not.
Any feature that could not be used for 1d4 rounds, I might suggest moving to pb times per long rest. That's pretty standard for dnd.
For conditions like blinded and silence should the target not get a saving throw?
I probabaly would not add in the self restrained condition when pinning another character if you are considered 1 or more sizes larger than the creature you are pinning. A bigger creature should easily be able to hold down a smaller creature without penalty. That also gives incentive to spend 1ki to increase your creature size category.
How about something like having no movement penalty when moving a grappled creature? Or was that there and I missed it?
