Currently playing a 2024 rules goblin monk and wondering if Grappler is still good enough with the limitations of being a small size.
Unarmed Strike: "...This grapple is possible only if the target is no more than one size larger than you and if you have a hand free to grab it."
Grappler Feat: "...Fast Wrestler. You don't have to spend extra movement to move a creature Grappled by you if the creature is your size or smaller."
Being small limits you to only grappling medium or smaller creatures. Fast Wrestler would only work with Small or smaller ones. Is that giving up too much to make the pick great?
I would say it depends on your campaign and DM. If you are in a campaign where you are mostly fighting humanoids, then most of the enemies you face will be medium sized or smaller, and Grappler will feel awesome even on a Small PC. If you are going to be spending your time fighting a lot of giants, then Grappler will feel like a let-down.
Enspelled Weapon (Rare so 4000 gp worth) allows a level 2-3 Transmutation spell to be cast for 1 charge of 6, recharge 1d6 charges at dawn. Level 2 Enlarge/Reduce spell solves that for you.
Gonna be a grind to convince the DM to allow you to buy/find/make one but from then you just whack your smashing stick onna ground, howl the magic goblin words of power and become the size of an orc for 1 minute, 6 times a day. "Waaaggghghhhh!"
I would say yes, just for the cool factor (just being at the table). It would be like MMA back in the day when there were no weight classes and a light weight would get a heavy weight to tapout (early 90’s). But most encounters would be with medium sized, so you would get usage from the feat.

Life's hard - get a helmet!

On a small creature I’d go Speedy over grappler. And specialize in grabbing and climbing bigger creatures.
