TLDR: Which option is better for a Kensei monk? Spore druid, or UA ranger? Level 2 dip to either.
I am starting my next campaign with my Centaur Kensei Monk within the next few weeks and I'm still working on things that work well with my build. I need your thoughts on two multiclass options on what they add between combat/versatility/and roleplay. 2 level dip in either spore druid, or UA ranger.
I believe combat is more benefitted in ranger due to fighting style/favored enemy/hunter's mark. BUT ranger regains spells on long rest. While spore druid regains wild shape (AKA the symbiotic entity feaature) on a short rest, adding a d6 to each weapon attack more often, and I don't need to use a BA to apply hunter's mark a a druid.
For versatility they are close? Druid adds versatility with Wild Shape + more spells/cantrips. While ranger has spells too + favored enemy language bonus + tracking bonuses.
For roleplay, they might be tied as well?
If you need background: I am a trog in Gruul, with a Far Traveler background. Have a buddy in the same clan with me that rides me into battle,so I am stuck on Centaur. For roleplay flavor, my character was kicked out of his initial clan due to not being reckless and strong as they, and found riding buddy randomly while traveling the Rubblebelt.
Honestly For just 2 level Dip I would go cleric or fighter. But honestly go with whichever one feels the best. Don't plan out too far ((i have made this mistake HARD)) cause you will be planning for level 10 stuff but your only 3.
Starting at 3, but the reason I want druid/ranger is because they have features that apply to every weapon attack, and as a monk I;ll have 4 with flurry, 3 regularly.
Fighter would add a fighting style, which could at best add 1 AC, or with dueling add a +2 to two of my attacks.
Cleric 2 dip only has a certain amount of spells per long rest, whereas Druid has entity twice per short rest.
I agree with your assement about the druid vs ranger dip.
I would suggest the spore druid because of versatility, although ranger bit stronger in combat with fighting style the other 2 you mention situational and very limited resource per long rest.
If you go druid ask your the DM if it allowed to make mundane weapon out ice weapons with Shape Water and could be considerd kensei weapon if you have kensei proficiency in that type weapon. Although it doesn't add u anything combat wise I do feel it add uniques in your character. Another cantrip Guidance for that free +1d4 on ability check since monk don't have anything to concentrate on anyway.
Ritual spells gonna be handy outside combat like Detect magic, Healing Word nice safety net save sombody from deaths door. Also since you are druid you can change your 1st level spell list per long rest allow you bit more flexible.

2 Levels into fighter gives you Action Surge and Second Wind. I'm not exactly sure what 2 levels in ranger is going to give that beats fighter, druid and cleric.
Also Cleric dip isn't for spells. Depending on your domain you get nice buffs. Forge gives you either a +1 armor or weapon at level 1. Arcane gives you 2 wizard cantrips that use Wisdom.
The list goes on. I would watch out and make sure you don't have too many bonus actions in your build.
