I had thought it would be a good feat for v. Human or custom lineage but if you go with another race that has weapon proficiencies you can use dedicated weapon and at 5th level do d10 with longsword or battleaxe for two attacks and a d6 bonus action attack or two d6 FoB attacks so kind of makes the feat less useful.
if you do take it you can swap it out at level 12 for blind fighting since you’re now at d8’s at level 11 anyway.
I'm not actually aware of the ability to swap out feats. I've never seen this written in the books. Though I admit that perhaps I have forgotten it or missed it somewhere.
Ahh, the +1 CON or STR, that makes sense. To that I'll agree, a +1 DEX would certainly be better obviously, although CON is still useful~. Wasn't trying to argue, just was trying to get clarification =P
And yes, Tasha's added a Feat called Fighting Initiate, which allows for you gain a fighting style without dedicating a whole level to Fighter. Not the best option for Feats, but its nice that it's available
Fighting Initiate Prerequisite: Proficiency with a martial weapon
Your martial training has helped you develop a particular style of fighting. As a result, you learn one Fighting Style option of your choice from the fighter class. If you already have a style, the one you choose must be different.
Whenever you reach a level that grants the Ability Score Improvement feature, you can replace this feat’s fighting style with another one from the fighter class that you don’t have.
So you can swap out Fighting Initiate: Unarmed Fighting Style for Fighting Initiate: Blind Fighting.
I did say that I could have missed it or didn't remember it. Still trying to remember some of these things. That being said. I'd still almost rather just have blind fighting the whole time. Monk's damage really isn't as far behind as it's made out to be. It's just more spread out.

I apologize if it came across as an attack against you, that wasn’t my intent. Blind fighting might be better the whole time, that’s true.
I wonder if Unarmed fighting style would be better on Astral Self monk. Just realized the force damage, extra reach, and WIS instead of DEX or STR is only for the unarmed strikes with the arms so if you use Dedicated Weapon to use a longsword or any other non reach weapon you still have to be within 5 feet of your targets and use DEX or STR to attack with those and they are still the S/P/B damage type. And only your Bonus Attack unarmed strike or FoB gets the arms benefit.
If you took the fighting style I believe you could just forgo the weapons for 10 levels and do all force damage at reach and d8’s while you have the arms up instead of having to remember your quarterstaff is DEX at d6 or d8’s and then your BA attack or FoB is WIS at d4 or d6 with reach, which you would have to step back to use possibly getting an OA against you.
Honestly I don't switch into weapons as much as most people seem to think is required to do damage. People don't realize how good damage can be on a monk if you can just hit consistently. For example my Kobold monk at level 5 almost consistantly does 25 damage a round without relying on weapons. The reason this is possible is because of pack Tactics in this particular characters case but there are lots of other ways to achieve similar results. Just getting advantage on attacks or a higher hit modifier in general can do a lot for the monks damage. You don't even necessarily have to have both unless luck is against you.
I actually currently outdamage the rogue and only get beaten either by strong spells or by other classes blowing their resources in big ways to do the same kind of damage. It just doesn't seen as impressive because it's not actually one large number. It's actually a whole bunch of lower numbers. For example my max damage per hit is 10 right now. But my minimum damage is actually 5. So I'm guaranteed 15-20 damage a turn if I can juts make all my hits and I max out at 30-40 damage a turn depending on whether I'm using flurry of blows or not. These are actually fairly good sustainable numbers at that level despite the fact that they don't look all that large when I roll them.
A key note is that I mentioned the rogue specifically because being next to her is an easy way to activate my pack tactics and in the process of activating my pack tactics actually activates her ability to sneak attack with her rapier. This is usually because my guaranteed damage is a lot higher than hers is.
