I am playing a pious oath of the crown 3/divine soul 4 sorcadin, sword and board. First level paladin, but transitioned into sorcadin. Now my party needs a frontliner and I am leaning into DPS/tank, but am a giant glass canon.
Stats: STR 16 DEX 10 CON 16 INT 9 WIS 10 CHA 18, HP 59, AC 20
Feats: Warcaster, Resilient (CON).
Next level going paladin 4 and getting the ASI/feat. Planning to go paladin 6/sorcerer X.
Should I go +2 STR/CHA/CON or maybe Tough feat? Half feat, Fey Thouched?
Breh... You have BOTH Warcaster, and Resilient CON... and you DON'T want to access Spirit Guardians at sorc 5???? Do you understand the position of privilege you're in??? You have such high CHA, and you still have both feats! Are you kidding me?!?
Forget about the feat or ASI, get sorcerer 5 ASAP. You want to be a good front liner? All you have to do is activate spirit guardians, and jump into the mob mosh pit. You're pretty much NEVER going to lose concentration, and you're going to do SO much damage. Then, in the following turns, just use the dodge action. God help the enemies that even think about trying to knock your concentration out, as they attack you at disadvantage, and if they hit you, you make concentration checks at advantage and have proficiency in CON saving throws to help you.
Personally, I don't understand how you can say you're a glass cannon as a sword-n-board paladin. If you're wearing heavy armor, equipped with a shield, and have at least a 3 in your CON modifier, guess what? You're not squishy or made of glass. You're actually tanky. Now, most of the time if a paladin was telling me their goal was to be a DPS but was using sword-n-board, I'd be cringing hardcore because you'd want to use GWM in some capacity. But guess what? Your damage is going to come from spirit guardians instead, so since you want to hold onto your concentration for that as long as possible, sword-n-board is actually perfect for you. That's why subsequent turns would be better spent on using your action for the dodge action rather than using it on hitting with wet noodle sword attacks.
So, my advice to you is this: when you get to 4th level paladin (AFTER sorc 5) make sure your fighting style is Defense (again, something I'd never recommend for sword-n-boards, but perfect for YOU) and increase your CHA to 20. Get 6th level paladin, then go straight back to sorc the rest of the way. Use spirit guardians as your main spell unless you need something else... Then use that "something else."
Amazing advice. I was anchored in my belief I needed to rush paladin 6. Thank you.
I guess my problem with the glass canon is our GM is increasing the damage dealt by their minions. Every sessions I am rolling death saving throws, sometimes from round 1. Last session I got hit twice in one round for at total of 62 HP and knocked out, then the artificer and bard was knocked out in one hit (thunder bolt). Luckily the druid could quickly heal us. Just saying, when the enemy is rolling +30 damage when they hit it is hard to be a squishy sorcadin. Thus my thoughts about Though feat. Also our GM capped base AC to 20, so Defense on top would not increase my AC.
Dear fellow adventurers
I need help in picking the next ASI or feat.
