Tbh, I would lean towards either Arcane Trickster or Assassin. They could either lean into the trickery aspect using spells like Minor Illusion, or use the circus as a cover to get access to cities to kill their targets.
Been seeing that Assassin isn't great as an Rouge.
Assassin isnt bad. People think its bad because they hear Assassin and think *big damage kill, one shot stab*, which is definitely not what the subclass is. Yes, Assassinate does help your damage, but only if you surprise an enemy, as does Death Strike. However, the whole point of the Assassin subclass is for your rogue to integrate themselves into a targets life, whether for a few weeks or for the hour they are at the grand ball, then surprise (literally and in combat terms) and kill them.
For a Jester character, i would recommend Arcane trickster if you want to go into the 'tricks and cool stuff' gimmick, allowing you to use enchantment and illusion spells to fool enemies. Assassin definitely works, but is more subject to the type of game you're playing (it favours intrigue/mystery games rather than dungeon delving/wilderness games). I would also recommend swashbuckler if you want a slippery and more combat focused character. Hope this helped!

You are really highlighting why assassin is bad, or if not bad, its major problem. What are the other party members supposed to do while you rp integrating into a target’s life for weeks? It’s a team-based game, and assassins are mechanically designed to be solo operatives. Their features don’t work very well with a team, is the problem.
To the OP, a swashbuckler could work, as they’ll be good at charisma. Or, really, look at bard. They’re the performers and can do many of the same things, skill-wise as a rogue.
Arcane Trickster, with their “Mage Hand Legerdemain”, will allow you to pull off various pranks & tomfoolery, with a good chance of getting away with it…along with the spells you can get, there’s enough in this subclass to make a great Jester (the Hideous Laughter spell comes to mind).
Swashbuckler is also a fantastic choice…it allows you to emphasize the “tumbling” aspect of the Jester…the kind that does flips, cartwheels, and blade-juggling while cackling like a madman.
Plus, Swashbucklers boost their Charisma…great for a performing Jester…and there “Panache” feature is PERFECT for a Jester…it either lets you charm an NPC with your shenanigans (good for social encounters)…or, as I would do it: taunt the heck out of a hostile enemy with mockery & jokes.
To get the Arcane trickster subclass, you need to either buy the Players Handbook on here, or you can buy just the subclass for much less. If you want the Swashbuckler subclass, you need to either buy Xanathars guide to everything or just the subclass.
Once you have bought your desired subclass, you need to create a rogue, then set them to 3rd level, and select the subclass you want. Hope this helped

Hi.I'm pretty new and seeking advice on which subclass that would fit a Rouge Jester. Really appreciate the advice!

I’d second both Arcane Trickster & Swashbuckler.

How do I put these traits on the D&D Beyond app?
