My Rogue has recently hit level 8. He's a high elf Swashbuckler with Fey Accuracy and Booming Blade. I don't think Rogue has much to offer me moving forward.
My character has the Cloistered Scholar background. He is obsessed with knowledge and books. Because of that, I considered getting him a few Wizard (Bladesinger) levels. However, the party already has a wizard. I don't want to make it seem like I'm stealing his thunder.
I considered Sorcerer, as well. I do use Booming Blade almost every round, so Storm Sorcerer makes sense. However, mechanically, the benefits are kind of lacking.
I also thought about a Fighter dip. When my party talks about my character, they usually call him a swordsman, not a rogue, so I think it fits. Battlemaster would be pretty useful.
I really don't know what to do with my progression moving forward. What do you think? Oh, my ability scores areStr 8, Dex 20, Con 12, Int 14, Wis 10, Cha 14 and my only magical item is a pair of Boots of Striding and Springing. My group has a human Paladin (Oath of the Ancientes), a goliath Cleric (War), a wood elf Druid (Moon) and a gnome Wizard (Illusionist).
Battlemaster is always a great choice for a Rogue. The Riposte maneuver can trigger Sneak Attack, Disarm is fun for both the effect and the flavor, Menacing Attack is a very strong debuff. Action Surge is straight up cheating sometimes. If you want to go heavy on martial prowess then Fighter 5 (or Fighter 7 or even Fighter 11) is a great option.
I would recommend taking rogue to 11 or 12, at 11 you get reliable talent, one of the best abilities any class gets and at 12 you get an asi. Beyond that Fighter, Ranger, or Paladin would be good options depending on what your ability scores are.
