For some background, I'm playing an Arcane Trickster in our Dungeon of the Mad Mage campaign right now. I'm trying to get some new ideas on what I can do with my cunning action Mage Hand shenanigans in combat. I realize this can be entirely dependent on the environment and what's immediately around, but what are some creative things you've been able to pull off with Mage Hand legerdemain in combat?
After discussing with my DM, I've been able to do the following so far:
Ball Bearings/Caltrops being dropped
Dropping/Pouring Flask of Oil (I've thought about trying to make Molotov cocktails with these)
Pouch of sand dispersed in an area to attempt to blind a creature
Pulling sack or bandanna over humanoid's eyes/head
take weapons out of scabbards and throw them aside
tie shoes together/tie rope/string around their legs
Not sure what else you could do beyond what you said.
Ooo I haven't tried the leg trips with rope/string before, that's a good one. Stuff like this helps me feel a bit more useful besides just the single attack and dipping out on a turn.
Remove visible potions from opponent, replace with poison or oil vials they may then chug by mistake, partially coating themselves choking it out, next round use flint and steel to spark and light them up
Hold an extendable cane or reed frame with light muslin or cloth over it. Move your 'inflatable decoy' into areas to scout, just not in the light where the decoy is obvious (easier with unseen servant, you can do better more complex decoys)
hold a torch to advance ahead of the party that cant see in the dark or scout worth a damn
hold a skull with continual flame cast on it - move it down corridoors pretending to be a flying skull - freak out friends
hold a water pail - with water to put out fire, with flour to throw at fire, with oil to throw on flaming flour and breadcrumbed opponent to batter them.
hold your bow or light weapon when you need a third hand, draw an extra weapon for you when you cant yourself.
close or open a door / make noise behind opponents to get them to look away from you then jump out and stab them in the back when you are 'hidden' from sight to attack with advantage.
hold an object thats fragile and looks either menacing or annoying with oil inside - let the enemy coat themselves in oil / alchemist fire / release angry wasp swarm, alternatively entertain children with sweetened pastries or regional treats in a pinata that moves
steal honey without getting stung for it
'entertain' oneself
Check with the Dm about analogues for caustic substances - disperse lye or quicklime like a hyper confetti throwing flower girl (lye burns the skin as acid, quick lime is an irritant that ruins soft tissues, can be made from burning oyster shells and will leave people permanently blind, or kill them if they inhale it into the mouth and throat... might want to have alchemy or poison kit profiency or both though or accidents are likely to occur. Isnt chemistry fun/terrifying?
steal ioun stones?
prod possible traps
creepily stroke people to get them to turn to face someone either to make them think they are being haunted or to get them to turn away from your hiding place so you can escape / stab them
hold a stolen object and keep it in your 'shadow' as your being searched because someone believes you stole something
hold your drink when your drunk enough to need every limb possible to relieve yourself without wardrobe accidents or ambulatory collapse to occur
pretend to be a medium and have it move objects / tap on the table - make some spending money / favour of the wealthy - DONT try this if the local religion will burn you as a necromancer!
most importantly - have fun!

Hello fellow lurkers,

take weapons out of scabbards and throw them aside
tie shoes together/tie rope/string around their legs
