I saw this 2nd lvl spell called MIND THRUST (UA) when I was making an aberrant mind sorcerer (UA). The problem I have with the spell is that it has a casting time of a bonus action and on top of 3d6 damage it limits the targets action. So is it a bit OP or is this normal.
Since this is a UA spell it could be a bit unbalanced.
First off since its a bonus action spell you can only cast cantrips with your action if you cast mind thrust. Secondly the effect happens on a failed save and only once. Thirdly it only targets one creature. The spell isn't broken since there are other options that are just as viable or better at enemy control.
It is fairly good, but nothing spectacular. As Shaylic mentioned, you're limited to a cantrip for your action. The damage is average for 2nd level. Getting a baddie to skip a turn is real tempting. All in all, I'd consider building a spell list around this instead of just the default picks.
Id insinuation is a better choice in general since it can target any creature and being a lvl 1 spell can be twinned for a mere 1 sp. The damage is nice but if they took the damage out I would still pick this on my sorcerer over hold person just for the versatility.

A monk's stun effect is way worse.

You wanna talk broken UA spells? Anyone read Id Insinuation? Is this not just a 1st level Hold Person with extra damage?
They can still run away. I would definitely take this all day over hold person.

I didn't even think of twinning. They might have to make this "save for no damage".
