So my DM and I are wondering - if the spell or other effect that causes AoE damage hits me even for half the damage, does that mean that my vessel gets destroyed in that process? Can someone explain how does it work?
Items which are held, carried, or worn are almost never damaged by spells or effects. Unless you see a notation that says specifically that it causes damage to items like that, it doesn't.
This is so nobody needs to worry about the exact durability of every item in the game. Your vessel is perfectly safe unless someone sets out intentionally to destroy it. There are rules to calculate the armor class and hit points of an object. They are optional, meant only for games where the DM needs to be realistic for whatever reason.
My advice is that you consider your vessel safe from all harm. Don't look at the rules in the Dungeon Master's Guide, it might make you decide to change the size, shape or composition of your vessel, and there's no reason for you to do this unless the DM has reason to attack it. Your DM probably doesn't need it either, but it's there if they want it.
My understanding is the AC and hitpoints are listed in case you leave it laying on the ground unattended while you're inside it, or try to hide your party in it and hope the dragon doesn't notice the new addition to it's horde.
