So, I just found out about the Bloodhunter class fairly recently, and I immediately wanted to make a Warlock/Bloodhunter that flavours the Eldritch Blast to look like globs of blood, and have a blood theme for all spells and abilities that it works with.. The problem is that a lot of Bloddhunter stuff seems to work only with weapons, so it feels like only Hexblades can really make much use of the multiclass.
Does anyone have any good suggestions to make them mesh a bit better, even some homebrew stuffs? A subclass that utilizes EB would be fantastic
It sounds like Order of the Profane Soul might already be what you want; at third level you get Warlock pact magic as if you were multiclassing one third of your levels into Warlock, except that you use Intelligence instead of Charisma. This way you don't slow your Blood Hunter progression.
The trade off is that you don't get Warlock Invocations as standard, so you won't have access to Agonizing Blast to boost the damage further; you could take Eldritch Adept but RAW it still uses Charisma for the bonus damage so you probably don't want to (too many ability scores to juggle) unless your DM lets you swap it for Intelligence. However you can still use Hex for extra damage (and since it can last an hour+ it's a decent use of your limited slots).
You still have the option of adding Warlock levels later if your campaign is long enough, though unless you have high Charisma you probably won't want to, as you end up in a weird situation where you're juggling two sets of spells from the same list.
While Blood Hunter's Crimson Rites are weapon focused, that just means you have more flexibility; it means you can open with Eldritch Blast at a distance and then switch to melee if the enemy closes the gap or your allies need another melee fighter to help out.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Yeah, but that is the thing, I dont want to melee at all. I just want blood blasts! Haha. I am thinking of making my own version, but other than simply letting the crimson rites work with the blast, I am not sure if that would be super broken or how to balance better
If you want the aesthetics of blood blasts, you could simply go full warlock and flavour EB and other spells to look like that. The Undying patron could even fit the theme quite well.
