So I started playing in a very loose game and so I created a Sorcerer (Stone) 1/Warlock 3 (Hexblade) (fits the characters fictional history worked through flashback) due to a player that arrived a bit later creating a additional warlock/sorcerer (started as 2/2) a bit later there created a bit of a problematic house ruling of multclassing.
Causing issue:
The other player thought that he could both stack the warlock/sorcerer levels for both classes and by virtue (not sure that is the proper word) his 5 character level (taken as Sorcerer 3) would allow him to learn 3rd level spells and apparently ignore limits on Sorcery Point. I left it alone as the action happened at the end of the session so I waited for the next session to bring up the issue
He argued that "Additionally, when you gain a levei in this class, you can choose one of the sorcerer spells you know and replace it with another spell from the sorcerer spell list, which also must be of a levei for which you have spell slots." While stacking the warlock levels with sorcerer on the mulitclass chart. Apparently that has been how the groups he normally played with had ran it.
So the DM ruled the following
We count our Warlock levels for multiclass spell slots while using our Warlock Pact magic at warlock level, However spells slots can only be used for the class that the spell is known for. So I am currently limited to only 2 warlock spells per short rest, but now have 4 first level slots/3 second level slots/2 third level slots. However I only know two first level spells one of which is shield and the other (for the time) being feather fall (that was chosen for story mostly, but has saved a few lives). However the DM is allowing me to use the slots for Cursebringer.
So I am trying to decide on my general lay out for the continued leveling (plot/story influences notwithstanding). I think I really want get Armor of Hexes so I am between Sorcerer 6/Warlock 14 or Sorcerer 4/Warlock 16?
IMHO thats pretty horrible, would be worse if the Sorcerer gains the higher level spells as well (Unless you are playing a High Magic Fantasy Game). So you have these two guys, Abed the Sorcerer and Bendri the Warlock. Both are level 2 Sorcerer, level 2 Warlock.
Abred takes a further level in Warlock so is now Warlock 3, Sorcerer 2. Whereas Bendri takes a further level in Sorcerer, so is a Warlock 2, Sorcerer 3.
Abred is a Draconic Sorcerer, now knows 4 Sorcerer Spells and 4 cantrips (he gains a new 1 (2nd level) and can replace another sorcerer spell with another (1st or 2nd). He also knows 3 (1st level) Warlock spells and 2 cantrips.
Abred has 2 Warlock Pact Slots (1st level) and by your DMs ruling, will be a 5th level multiclass caster. So has 4 first level slots, 3 second level slots and 2 third level slots.
Bendri as a Warlock 3, Sorcerer 2 knows 4 Warlock spells, 2 cantrips and 3 Sorcerer spells and 4 cantrips. Of his 4 Warlock spells, one is new and another can be changed. His Warlock spells may be of second level. He will have at least 2 Warlock spells of 1st level.
Bendri has 2 Warlock Pact Slots (2nd level) and has 4 first level slots, 3 second level slots and 2 third level slots for Sorcerer spells.
Now in the regular raw game, both Abred and Bendri will have the spells known as detailed above, their spell slots would be different though as in the PHB but they can cast Warlock spells with Sorcerer slots, cast Sorcerer spells with Warlock Pact slots and be free to use Sorcery Points with Warlock spells.
Abred has 2 Pact Slots (1st level) and 4 (1st level), 2 (2nd level) sorcerer slots
Bendri has 2 Pact Slots (2nd level) and 3 (1st level) sorcerer slots
You want Armor of Hexes (thats Warlock 10). So you could go Sorcerer 10, Warlock 10 or Sorcerer 6, Warlock 14 or Sorcerer 4 Warlock 16. What do you want your character to be or do?
I would imagine your character is focusing on Warlock Hexblade, so what Sorcerer features do you gain or lose? What fits your character concept. Anyroad have fun
After getting back to the books/pdfs, I think I will go either Warlock 16/Sorcerer 4, (to get some metamagic and an ASI from sorcerer and a last one from warlock), or Warlock 15/Sorcerer 5 (to get 3rd level sorcerer spells).
Both are cool options, Warlock 16, Sorcerer 4, only gains you an extra Ability Score Improvement and you lose out on 3rd level Sorcerer Spells and 2 Sorcerer Spell slots of 3rd level.
So I would go Warlock 15, Sorcerer 5, as having an extra 2 spell slots at 3rd level is way more useful than an Ability Score Improvement or an optional Feat.
I am going to be level 5 warlock next for thirsting blade, then three levels of sorcerer for metamagic (mostly quickening booming/green flame blade with along with 2 normal attacks per action). Not sure about my other metamagic option.

Newbie alert, but where is the hexblade warlock from?
