I've made a hexblade warlock warforged, and my AC is currently 17. I plan to eventually get a shield, which will bump my AC to 19.
I'm wondering if there are any spells (or spell types) that I should grab, or any that I should avoid. I'm currently level one with shield and hex. I want to replace shield when I level up but I'm not sure what to replace it with. I was thinking Armor of Agathys but it requires me to be hit. I know 17-19 AC isn't invincible, but I'm just not sure if it's worth using with my one of my few spell slots.
Mirror Image and Blink are both solid defensive spells in the low to mid levels. However, the best Warlock defenses IMHO are found on the Invocations list.
Devil's Sight isn't a "defense" as such but when combined with the Darkness spell it allows you to conceal yourself and attack with impunity.
Trickster's Escape is under-rated; I can't tell you how many times Freedom of Movement has saved my character's life.
Tomb of Levistus is the ultimate panic-button defense. It scales well with level, starting off with 50 temp HP that stop the triggering damage on a reaction. It'll save your life.
What pact do you plan to take? What role do you plan to fill in the party? Melee? Ranged Weapons? Ranged Spells? Touch Spells? Control Spells?
I play a Warforged Hexblade, but I'm Tome Pact, and Agonizing Blast provides all the damage I need, freeing me up to do crowd control (when needed) with spells like Hypnotic Pattern and Hunger of Hadar.
Blur is an excellent spell to consider for personal defenses.
EDIT: I have to iterate the sentiment though that your party should also be helping provide defenses so that you're not burdened with having to buff yourself. Hexblade is actually a really great class for providing debuff-damage spells which help mitigate incoming damage by giving the enemy less opportunity to attack or by reducing the damage you would take. Like Ray of Enfeeblement for example.

To be honest, I don't really know what role I'm going to be playing in the party yet. My party is currently an Artificer, a Blood hunter, a Cleric, a Warlock (me), a Sorcerer, and a Wizard. (basically 5 casters and a self-damaging fighter).
I'm thinking that I'll go melee if my DM lets me use armblades with pact of the blade (which seems likely knowing him), since I'm kind of going for an iron man vibe with my attacks. For example: when I use eldritch blast my two fingers turn into the barrel of a gun, and when I cast shield my arm unfolds into a shield. I'd like to be able to have blades and such come out of my arm when I summon them.
