What is your wizard's favorite type of elemental magic? The way I see it, fire is overused and overrated, so my wizard uses lightning, but it's just my opinion. I want to know yours!
Each has its place: Fire often enjoys raw power, while the others sacrifice power for rider effects.
As a caster, I tend to focus on versatility over power, so the elemental type is usually less important than the secondary trait. For example, my two favorite cantrips are Mind Sliver(Psychic damage+ Int Saving Throw + Saving Throw Penalty) and Thorn Whip(Piercing damage + Maneuvering)
As a Wizard, my favorite "elemental magic" would by gravity magic (Graviturgy).
I like lightning myself. Mostly, when I build elmental type spellcasters, I go with sorcerers. They're just better at being one trick ponies than the wizard (mainly because they don't learn enough spells to become really versatile).
The main limiting factor for acid is the tiny number of spells that feature it. Otherwise, it would be almost as much fun as zapping all your enemies into dust.

To be honest, I like lightning, because I love the idea of a wizard shooting a crackling Lightning Bolt at their enemies. A lot of cool spells do lightning damage.

Lightning is pretty thematic...fast and devastating. Lightning Bolt & Storm Sphere are favorites of mine.
Shocking Grasp is a cantrip that balances its risk...most spellcasters have no business being up close in combat...with the fact that A) punching people with a fistful of lightning is awesome, and B) it can sometimes crit, which can be amazing when it happens.
Cold damage is a close second for me, though...Cone of Cold & Otiluke’s Freezing Sphere are memorable every time they get cast. : D
Add to that the Frostbite cantrip & and the Freezing Ray; and you have no shortage of debuff cantrips for cold damage.
Frost Fingers is an amusing addition, as well (situational, though).
I like Earth spells the most out of the ones available, but if I had to pick one damage type out of any available type, Psychic. Earth spells usually deal magical bludgeoning damage, so it's never really a bad option unless the creature happens to be a barbarian or something, and I like their added benefit of battlefield control/restriction. Honorable mention for Acid and Lightning, and Thunder though. Acid is just a brutal way to kill someone, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Lightning, as others have said, is fast and efficient, and I respect that in a spell. Thunder's just loud and flashy. Who doesn't like that in a spell?

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.
You forgot thunder damage, and water is effectively cold. Mine would be acid, but there is such a limited number of acid (and also poison) spells. I’ve been homebrewing some and they’re turning out great! Fire is no doubtedly overused and so many monsters are resisted to it. Lightning has the second most spells and not many creatures are resisted or immune to it.
Noxious Pillar and Acidic Fog are pretty nice. Corrosive grasp is interesting but I can see it being overpowered. Hypnotoxic Ray is a little much, imo. Overall some neat ideas though, I like them.

Chilling kinda vibe.
Either acid or cold.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)

I usually play sorcerers who now have Transmuted Spell, though. I like casting Otiluke's Freezing Sphere of Acid.

Mind sharing some of your spell ideas for acid/poison? I've actually been doing the same and I'm kind of tapped out.
