I got your point, but I have the feeling that you kind of waste your sub-class abilities if you are going into the traditional control/God Wizard style — planting yourself in the back and spamming battlefield control or fireballs. I mean, Bladesong and the extra attack with a cantrip embedded are not adding much if you are safe in cover casting your good old Hypnotic Pattern, right? Wouldn’t be better to just go as a Diviner / Evoker / Abjurer or something?
Maybe I’m missing something, but Bladesinger abilities kind of prepare you to take more risks and go into the fray more often.
Ahh, no no no, I can see there's been a slight misunderstanding. I am 100% in favor of bladesinger going in melee and utilizing their cantrip extra attack. At the very least, I'll start with a +3 dex mod and grab a +1 rapier when I can in AL. I'm a firm believer that Bladesinger has fantastic sustainable damage thanks to their melee and high AC.
When I say traditional approach, I do mean increasing stats and spell tactics as you're well aware, but while they're concentrating it's best to make use of those abilities and get in melee.
Fighter 1 doesn’t add anything to Bladesinger besides a Fighting style and CON prof. You cannot use medium or heavy amor, neither a shield. Go full Wizard, prioritize DEX > INT > CON and enjoy.
Fighting style and Con is pretty darn good to have if you're a wizard. All you are giving up (assuming level 20) is an extra third level spell once a day. Defence or dueling are fantastic for Bladesingers.
Those four extra hit points are nothing to scoff at either, especially if you like to roll for HP. :)
The two 3rd level spells can be cast every short rest, so that’s a lot more than an extra 3rd level spell once a day. Also, you give up on a 7th level spell slot.

Makes sense?
