Well, I think the best thing you can do, as a Wizard, is copy your spellbook and then use DIS on the copy in case you ever lose your primary spellbook. Just make sure that sapphire is very well hidden :-)
If you've made a Clone, use DIS on all of your expensive/magical items and leave the sapphires next to the tank.
If you want to be a jerk, you can arrange to pay someone with an expensive item, and then use DIS to bring it back
If some place doesn't allow you to bring your weapons/magical items, DIS can be a very expensive way of allowing everyone to summon them, but this is getting to more specific circumstances :D
And just thought of a couple more! If you need to find out who is behind something or where someone is located, cast DIS on an item you think he/she/it might keep on his/her/its person (a letter might work, but you'd have to know when it would be read by the person in question). Or if you need to keep tabs on a party member or NPC. Granted, there might be cheaper ways of doing this :D
Things that don't require extraordinary circumstances to use?
