I can see and illusion granting flank in situations where you have time to prepare and ambush and with spells that are more complete like Major-Image. Where an opponent is surprised by the illusion and where isn't "giving time" to make a check. A dog on a chain running out from around the corner or out of an open crate could give you flanking. Of course that only lasts as long as and investigation check isn't performed. Or as long as the illusion is perceived as a threat. This is a very niche circumstance so you would have a few chances to really make use of it but I do see it being possible.
Or at the very least I can see it been possible when the DM uses it against their players.
“When a creature and at least one of its allies are adjacent to an enemy and on opposite sides or corners of the enemy’s space, they flank that enemy, and each of them has advantage on melee attack rolls against that enemy. When in doubt about whether two creatures flank an enemy on a grid, trace an imaginary line between the centers of the creatures’ spaces. If the line passes through opposite sides or corners of the enemy’s space, the enemy is flanked. “
Rules for flanking require it to be an ally. Illusions aren’t allies. But since flanking is an optional rule that the DM has to allow in their game there is no harm in asking them to houserule it.

but the whole point of Illusions is to distract and confuse so i would take a closer look at Help Action rules giving advantage to your freinds attacks in combat unless the creature has true sight they will have to burn a action to discover its fake
And to be honest if your DM isnt allowing the use of illusions in this way then they probably shouldnt of allowed illiusionist in the party to begin with
Most illusions dont do damage and are counted as control spells there job is to burn movement and actions to control the fights flow
Speak to your DM find out your Limitations before you begin a game find out if your images are going to be of use or just cheerleaders
Illusions are fun but if the DMs not on board your better off rolling something else

There is no reason to not allow illusionists just because they cannot use their illusions to flank. illusions have no ability to actually threaten anyone so no they would not give you any flank. They might be able to count as a help action through distraction but that is partly up to the DM.
An illusionist is also a dangerous and very unexpected danger because there are a lot of illusions that when they do deal damage others do not actually know what is going on because they cannot see it. There are also illusions that deal damage even if you know they are illusions. making for a unexpectedly frightening opponent. They don't need the ability to flank with illusions to make themselves useful or even powerful members of the party.
Of course, things get really fun when you can make the illusions real... Level 14 wizard of the school of illusion, anyone?
I've always felt that Real was a bad way to phrase things with that power. Because what it's doing is not actually making the illusions real. It doesn't impart on them characteristics or true ability to attack or anything. All it's doing is giving them substance so you can physically interact with such illusions or have them interact with others. They can't do damage or any actual harm through being given substance. They don't gain any real level of sentience. How a person responds to the oddities about them is still all head cannoned if necessary. But they have enough to them to be functional on purely non-combatative terms.

Should illusions be able to flank or should flanking be restricted to allies?
If you want illusions to help you flank enemies, go to the Trickery Domain cleric (it will give you advantage anyway).
Chilling kinda vibe.
As with all things DM buy in is required.

Its a DM call, so most likely no for the party unless the dm wants to use this against you.
Put in the tooltip I assume you tried to add.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)
