Im playing a dwarf life cleric in red hand of doom . We are near the end of the campaign
I was lvl 8 and we were all exahusted i did a pray for ilmater asked him for some restoration for me and the party :
Master said to me to roll 100 if it was 56 or lower it all be good if tje roll higher bad things could happend. Rolled 86...
And some bright light surronded me and now ilmater my god from.the start he is not giving us anything he wants me to go to his plane and serve him. Now i have 4 hours to try to do someting otherwise my character will join him.
Looks like a strange ruling. If you factor in the fact that your prayer wasn’t part of Divine Intervention or anything, it kind of makes sense that the DM made this call.
…except for the fact that this is Ilmater we’re talking about. Not only is he lawful good, but he’s the deity of martyrdom, endurance, and sacrifice. It’s strange, and doesn’t fit his personality, unless he’s saying you serving him is the price of your party’s restoration.
It’s not my business, however, how your DM decides the game will go.
Can weird yeah. Suppose to be gentle and dont give negative stuff or at lesst he shouldnt didnt appear but why punish? I thought ilmater will be good but forcing me to leave the actual plane to join him sounds like the master is toying with me.
Alignment is futile when trying to understand a diety's motivation, mere mortals cannot always pierce such mystery. Your character is truly lucky to have received a direct response from his god and will have the chance and previledge to directly serve him in Martyrdomain! You'll remember all your life when one of your character became a Chosen of Illmater!
Now was the decision arbitrary, does the DM want you to make a new character, i guess only he knows it.
my cleric lost the soul at the beggning I thought i was going to join ilmater but wasnt all good. I was pulled to hell to some evil deity and my souls ended there.
but I refuse to join him. after that I joined the campaign with a new character and the old is still unkown whatever fate . maybe will know after we finish the campaign.
If you're going to play a cleric then going to some upper plane to serve your god could be a good end to a character arc. Being sucked into hell, not so good.
I entered the campaign as a dwarf brother. He also a cleric but he dosent know his brother (main) went to hell only he died. Hope he can find answers to send him to ilmater. We are near the end of the campaign
I'm not gonna lie, it sounds like your DM doesn't really know what he's doing. That's okay: back in high school, I played very arbitrary D&D with my friends, with a dumb story and dumber rules. We had fun. That sort of game, which yours sounds a lot like, can be fun. But maybe it's just best not to get too attached to characters!
And if you want a specific thing to happen (the party finds a way to save the cleric's soul so he goes to Ilmater's realm), ask the DM if they can make it happen! We DMs aren't mind readers, and we will lose track of stuff if we don't know it's important to you. Maybe suggest an adventure where the party clears out an abandoned, monster-filled temple of Ilmater, because it's the place to perform a ritual and save their friend's soul?

Is normal that a lawful good deity do this?
Why??

Why? Because your DM said so.
