So, whilst I am totally cool getting dice and backdrops etc. I had an idea to make the subscriber thing a bit more relevant to the people subscribing.
I am sure there are lots of players who own the books and subscribe to DnDBeyond for unlimited character slots etc. But the Master Tier I imagine is mostly bought by DMs to share content with players who dont buy books.
So I was thinking as a 15 year forever DM, whilst dice, backdrops and portraits etc. are cool, I rarely get to use them except to occasionally jazz up one of my players character sheets at their request.
So heres the idea, maybe, atleast for Master Tier, why not do something like give out "DnD Beyond Monsters" or "DnD Beyond One-shots" or really any kind of created homebrew by the DnD Beyond staff or DnD's vast community of top DMs as guest content etc. Things us as DM's can use in games with our players, new magic items, creatures, spells, stories, plot hooks, rollable tables for all sorts of things etc. I just feel this is a much more interesting concept for both players and DMs to enjoy and the main reason I use DnD Beyond.
Now I know a lot of this stuff DMs and players make up anyway, but I am sure every DM has at somepoint bought a creature pdf from somewhere or grabbed a one shot, or googled plot hooks, or been on a mailing list giving monthly spells or items (literally where this idea hit me from)
As a starting list you could have:
new magic items
creatures
spells
stories(one-shots)
plot hooks
rollable tables
villain backstories
tokens
classes or additional class mechanics
ideas or rule blocks for additional content like "fishing" or "travel" ideas
Really the list could be endless and I just feel like thats a cool way to get more out of DnD beyond for everyone and it would be cool to have custom "official" things like this supported on dndbeyond (sometimes the homebrew list is daunting to scroll through to find something new that you want to try).
From a product strategy perspective, you want to grow the number of people playing D&D. Frames, backgrounds and the other fluff aren't going to do that in a sustainable manner.
I think the best way to enable this is to make it easier to for people to DM.
Most Master Tier subs are likely to be DM's, so as a sub perk for Master Tier, if you provide a monthly one-page dungeon that comes with pre-built encounters and can be run via the Combat Tracker, you'll be making easy to run adventures will help grow the pool of DMs and subsequently the player base using DDB.
It really doesn't need to be too fancy. Provide the info needed to run a 2 hour session (3 scenes should be enough), a basic quest-line and one main adversary with a supporting cast of mooks and you're golden.
