It looks like I can't put a custom item into a container like a bag of holding. This seems unfortunate. I admit, I am slightly a packrat at picking up "interesting objects" and writing them down on my character sheet, but I usually have a role playing reason for it. However, I can't seem to get even the smallest ones into a bag.
Where can I keep/ record the party funds? Gold etc - Bag of holding?
I think this is on the "working on" list. I have the same issue, but supposedly there will be the option to have currency in each container, or some such.

I'd love a "Carried" section in the Currency sidebar with customizable container name. When you remove coins from your carried coin container(s), the total currency is adjusted accordingly.

What I did for now is I add something, usually amber, then customize it. I change the gold value, weight if needed, name and description.
It will still have the amber text description when you click it but first you'll have your own description, which can also be seen after the name without going "into" the item.
I added a lot of containers like pouches and renamed them so I have one herb pouch and so on. The spell component bag I used the same idea, added amber or similar, then wrote what it was so it would show up like this without needing to click them:
Item (slightly Grey description)
Example
Ruby dust (Spell component: Continual flame)
Small bag of sharp thorns (Spell component: Spike growth)
And so on, it makes it much easier to get a quick overview of what components goes with which spells so I actually describe what I'm using a lot more now.
While not perfect, this works as a substitute until they fix custom items.
This feature would be fantastic as a wizard especially! keeping track of all those spell components can be a bit messy without organisation.
Yeah, like I just said you can instead add items like an amber or similar and customize them to make them work.
As I described in the post above it would let you write spell components and then what spell they are for. If you change the name, then use the describing line under it to write what spell it is for, it gives a great overview for what they're used for.
Rubydust (spell component: continual flame)
Small bag of thorns (spell component: spike growth)
It's kinda fun to describe material components now, while casting the spells
Good idea for spell components, i can work with it.
What about where can I keep/ record the party funds?
One way could be to similarly add a amber, rename it gold coins and set the value depending on how many you have. Add another for silver and so on if you keep track of those as well.
For easier tracking you could add a pouch, put them all in that pouch and rename it into "party funds" or something similar.
When you customise the item you can also customise the value, and there you can use decimal points. So 0.01 for copper and 0.1 for silver would mean that every 10 silver stored is worth 1 gold, or every 100 copper would be worth 1 gold. Of course change for your own values.
Apologies if this was before the recent changes, but it's a lot easier to do this now :)

Yep, we're very happy for the recent change that made this possible!

This is reported to be in the works. Keep an eye out for this feature going forward!
As a wizard with all of my material (M) spell components as custom items.... I really feel this.
I agree, i want this feature too.

Can we have the weight of items placed in a Bag of Holding subtracted from the encumbrance total too :)

This was listed as something they work on as far as I remember
Small workaround is to add another item like a gem and customizing that instead :)

Will you fix this? It's an essential, no-brainer feature that should take a coder 30 min.
The issue with silver and copper is that the value is less than 1, so either you will have to set it to 0 or 1 and either would be incorrect.
When you customise the item you can also customise the value, and there you can use decimal points. So 0.01 for copper and 0.1 for silver would mean that every 10 silver stored is worth 1 gold, or every 100 copper would be worth 1 gold. Of course change for your own values.

I require some help i have the opposite problem i need to make a custom item with the ability to hold things but i don't know how to do this.
You can't, custom items can't have special properties such as being flagged as a container.
Instead, you can add a container to your inventory and customise.
