I'm new to the whole VTT thing, and struggling to take 45+ years of pnp experience and shove it into the "Den of Digital Dismay" in which I'm finding myself trying to start running digitally, 1600 miles away from my core group of gamers. Thought the one-shot wonders would be a great way to start a low level run, especially given that DDB said "featuring integrated maps for the D&D Beyond VTT,"
Sadly, some of the adventures (maybe all, i'm not done reading all of them) have encounters included for which there is not a VTT map. Example: Troubled Waters in the "10 Coastal One-Shot Adventures" very vaguely describes the mission as "The party are employed by a daring journalist to help break a headline story. This roving reporter wants to expose the secret activities of an unusual cult, but will need protection in order to sneak onto the group’s island base and investigate further." That's ok. I'm thinking "Maps of the island base will be there" And then, more specifically, describes "The group can sneak into the monastery, but five Cultists will try to stop them reaching the inner sanctum, where lights pulse behind a locked door." No map. Maybe I've been spoiled by four decades of creative genius in the paper print realm, but if the mod advertises maps, there should be maps for the encounters contained within. No map of the 'monastery', no map of 'the island'.
Sad state of affairs. I guess it's an opportunity for me to spend more money on something that should have been included, at least according to the description. If this were a PnP game, I'd just dummy something up. I guess I'll need to figure out how to do that now... I'm a Luddite, but getting better.
The map is at the bottom of the adventure: One-Shot Wonders > Troubled Waters > Map. It can be found in the VTT by adding a map, scrolling to the adventure header and then down to One-Shot Wonders: 10 Coastal One-Shot Adventures. It's the third section, between Wave of Destruction and Fishy Business.
Davyd, you are correct. There is a map there which is for the final boss encounter with Agney. There is a dearth of content to make playable the "sneak into the monastery" component. Left me saying "Wait. Which Monastery?" Like I said, I guess I'm spoiled by the thoroughness of old school print mods.
You need to re-read the one-shot—no map is required for the monastery because the there's no challenge to sneaking in. Per the adventure description:
The group can sneak into the monastery, but five Cultists will try to stop them reaching the inner sanctum, where lights pulse behind a locked door.
It's literally just a crumbling ruin around the mapped area, the inner sanctum. The one-shot is supposed to start on the map, in the chamber before the locked doors. There's nothing before that which requires a map, it's just setting the scene.
You're overestimating what this product is.
Also your feedback is in the wrong place—if you find the resources provided lacking you should contact Roll & Play Press who are the ones that published One-Shot Wonders (not D&D Beyond)
My original response was framed around assuming you understood that, and thus you were saying you thought the maps created by the publisher were missing from D&D Beyond. Sorry about that
1) D&D Beyond sold me the product. There are other posts about inaccuracies on Roll and Play products in this forum, so I rightly considered this a legitimate place to post the issue with the content.
2) Yes, there is a vague mention of "crumbling ruin" - you apparently have never seen print version products of the old school TSR, JG, etc. I don't fault you for that, but please don't presume an elitist tone when telling me how wrong my expectations were. If you are pleased with the product, bully for you. I was disappointed. I notified DDB, and I notified RPP as well. When the SELLER of the product says "Maps for each adventure, with boats, beaches and more, playable on Maps, the official D&D Beyond VTT" one would reasonably not play semantics games in their expectations.
3) Since it is 'literally just a crumbling ruin" how does one run an encounter in the VTT environment? When that encounter happens, and yes, it will, where is the map to facilitate all the great features provided by VTT? Yes, I did overestimate, but based solely on the context in which it was presented.
4) You, sir, may need to read the entire adventure. For example, the part about rowing out to the island from land. The part about possibly adding in two charmed killer whales if the challenge needs to be higher. Perhaps the entire "going around to the back of the island" to sneak in?
I will pnp a map, try to incorporate it myself. This was feedback to DDB, which is the heading of the forum. They sold it, they need to hear from the customer. Thank you for YOUR opinion. G'day.
What inaccuracies are there in the product description?
Plunge your party into pirate ambushes, sea monster hunts and dockside mysteries with this collection of 10 ready-to-play one-shots and maps set on the coast. Every one-shot comes with key NPCs, locations, a map, and a story structure that you can pick up and run with minimal prep. Perfect for last-minute game nights, new game masters, and campaign side quests at sea!
The marketplace entry is very clear that each one-shot includes a single map. The quality of that map isn't in D&D Beyond's control.

What should DDB do though? Your issue is that Roll & Play Press haven't provided what you consider to be enough maps. D&D Beyond has no control over that.

That's like saying you'd complain to Barnes and Noble if you didn't like the design of the monsters in Eve of Ruin. Or to Amazon if you thought the art was lacking in the Monster Manual.
