I have been working on a few things lately that caused me to run into some walls. I have a character who is a Wizard with a Transmutation specialization. They get the "Transmuter's Stone" feature that allows them to create an item that gives them a particular effect from a list of possible effects. This wasn't shown on the character sheet in any "usable" way, and there wasn't a way for the benefits of the stone to be reflected on the character sheet. So, as a workaround I made 8 different Transmuter Stone home-brew magic items. Each one had a specific available feature of that stone on it, and if you mark the given item as "use", it adds the benefit to the character sheet. Good workaround... but it would be nice if it were made a bit simpler. I have a few suggestions based on this situation that hopefully will be of some use.
Selectable Modifier In my case, I had to create 8 different home-brew items. Being able to create a magic item where you can select 1 to n of the available effects to be the active one would be much better. If I could have added each of the features to one item and then had a selection box/radio button/whatever to confirm the active feature, that would be perfect for this particular situation. Something like having "and/or" logic between the modifiers would be a possible way to do this (thinking generally).
Active Item Restriction Absent the "selectable feature" item, being able to restrict magic items you create from being used at the same time as certain other magic items would be another viable solution (to prevent sneaky players from having all 8 added and marking each one as "use" to get all 8 effects). This still requires creating multiple items, but at least you could mark in each one (with a linked list) "cannot be active at the same time as x, y, z, etc...". Hopefully that makes sense. Basically, in each of the 8 transmuter's stones for the example, the other 7 would be marked as incompatible/unusable while one is active - so only one could be marked "use" at a time. This would also be a cool feature for other magic items such as a pair of sentient swords that refuse to work if the other is present, so a character could find both but only use one at a time since they would fight. Just a thought.
Class Features interact with Stats Since these magic item questions/situations came up for me trying to put in place a workaround for a class feature not being on a character sheet, finding a way to incorporate these types of things on the sheet to actually update the relevant bonus/stat would be much appreciated. I know that in this example it was just an item for a transmuter wizard, and in this particular case a magic item is probably the solution (since the description states the item could be given to another character) - but there are other classes with features that can add a variable stat/bonus that would also benefit from having them able to be added to the character when selected instead of using a magic item workaround. I can't say I understand the back end of the system enough to make any specific suggestions here - but being able to have the class feature for Transmuter's Stone give the player a list of which feature to activate and then having that bonus reflected in the sheet would be great. Especially for new players/DMs who aren't savvy enough to realize it's missing and create workarounds ;)
Hopefully all of this gibberish makes sense - I appreciate any consideration put into these suggestions/requests. Also hopefully there isn't another thread for these - I searched, but didn't really find anything that seemed relevant.
Hello,
I have been working on a few things lately that caused me to run into some walls. I have a character who is a Wizard with a Transmutation specialization. Selectable Modifier

Active Item Restriction
