- Software design of DnDBeyond website must be a clusterf..ail, making it really expensive (developer hours) to implement 2014 and 2024 as alternatives. Not plausible.
- They think this will coerce existing campaigns to 2024 rules, generating huge amount of 2024 PHB sales. Kinda deluded.
It will only get worse going forward. Make your exit plans from DnDBeyond!

I would exit if there is actually a reasonable alternative, but there is not.
Pivoting to Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds means I am losing access to VGTM and MTOF (and other content on Beyond like UA and Dark Tides of Bilgewater) since I cannot buy those books anymore. Pivoting to Foundry is the worse option since they have barely any books on there.
Going full physical is not an option. I am using digital tools so I do not have to deal with physical crap. I can carry Beyond in my pocket; I cannot lug around a physical D&D library. There is no such thing as a physical database, so if you need to find something, you will have to slog your way through all the books. MM and similar books are horrible as tools on the table, and the cards that is suppoed to make your life easier only supports earlier books. Paper character sheets are absolute garbage compared to digital character sheets. I can go full digital, or go hybrid and have my digital tools be supplemented with physical tools, but going full physical is completely out of the question.
I guess I should have spent money on Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds as well when I first started, but I did not care about the VTT featuer since I play in person, and Beyond's convenience and UI is what sold me.
The only reasonable alternative is to switch to Roll20 or another distributor.
If you do not, you have told WotC that they can do whatever they want to your purchases and alter your current game however they want; And they will.
Is it inconvenient? Yes. Are you, as a consumer, worth it it to not deal with dealing with a company that will constantly disrespect you? Yes.
100% agree that people need to leave if there's not a massive apology & reversal of course next week. I don't want to leave as DDB was much better functionally than it's competitors, but unless they can keep it that way and show that managemeent give even the slightest iota of respect for their customers I will be gone.
I would just remind people though that anyone legally selling official 5e content will be doing so under license with WotC, so switching to Roll20 etc still means giving money to WotC. A lesser evil, and I'm not going to critisise anyone who does so, but just be aware that it still supports the people that are screwing you over.

What the hell even are our other options??? I have a fully online game with people in different countries! DnDBeyond has been my only solution for a while now to allow us all to play together! Does anyone have any better alternatives since this site is going into the ground???

I wish I had one. I do the dndb/roll20 combo and I don't want to just move completely to roll20 because who knows when wotc will pull their license. Some campaigns are just going to end because of this. Newer/more casual players might be turned off. If I end up needing to convert to something new, why not start over with literally any system besides d&d 5.x, like pf2e or TotV?

This is outrageous, forcing us to use new content even if we don't want to. I've even bought the 2014 rulebooks, but now I just can't use them??
I have a group that plays online and doesn't want to switch to the 2024 rules yet, so this feels like such a slap in the face.
There are two reasons:
- Software design of DnDBeyond website must be a clusterf..ail, making it really expensive (developer hours) to implement 2014 and 2024 as alternatives. Not plausible.
