I apologise in advance if this has been stated elsewhere, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
In regards to running a game, D&D beyond will be providing players and dms alike with all the info they need, however will dms be able to interact with their players? Im hoping that there will be a feature for awarding special or handing out loot directly to the players, automatically adding it to their character sheets?
it is possibly part of the up coming campaign management but I've yet to hear anything about it.
Like NightsLastHero, I haven't heard of anything like this, but it is a great idea. One problem I faced with FantasyGrounds was entering in less specific items or custom items into my character, like a Soldier's "Piece of a Banner." Or Entertainer's "Letter from a loved one." A DM could use these things in campaigns as plot points, or NPC ideas and yet there was no category for them in FantasyGrounds. I'm not suggesting everything be listed, only perhaps a section for custom items to award players, items that may have little value as treasure but are of great importance to the plot?

This is a great idea, and I don't recall hearing anything like it. That said, we're still in phase 1 of the beta, so who knows what they have planned for the character sheets.
A loot generator would be a good add-on to the suggestion too. It can see what classes the party is playing and what level they are, so you can pick whether the encounter should award a little bit, a medium amount, or a lot of loot, press a button, and you get random somewhat loot tailored to the party. DM hits accept and it goes to the party's character sheets. This would probably be something that happens after release though, since it's a pretty esoteric feature and requires a lot of integration with the character sheets. Still, could be useful.

There's a way to enter custom items by hand on both Fantasy Grounds and Roll20. Trying to set up my character sheet on Fantasy Grounds, I managed to fill in quite a bit of it before learning there was a drag and drop feature from the library, so I know it's possible :P Being a Mac user, Fantasy Grounds seems like a lot of hassle for little return, though. Roll20 was easier for me to use and enter stuff like that. With the character sheets on Roll20, though, since they copy a character sheet as you find in the PHB, not everything can really fit in the equipment section, so it's usually easier to write all gear in the treasure section. DMs can also make individual journal pages for whatever they want- custom items included.

Well they are making possibilities for homebrew content in phase three which will be good, and they will be also adding mundane items as well, so hopefully DMs will be able to make homebrew mundane items and then that should work well for plot related loot.
Even if that didn't quite happen I hope it will be possible to directly reward players with loot, because it will feel like a slight waste of time if the DM writes up all the info for the players then to have to rewrite it for themselves when they receive the items.

can always be helpful though :)
I don't think anything specific has been announced yet.
