I noticed when I was tuning a weapon for a homebrew game I'm in that I couldn't change things like the hit dice or the range of weapons. I don't know if it was brought up before or not, but is there a way to do these values? If not, could this potentially be a feature in an update?
currently D&D Beyond don't plan to introduce the ability to homebrew "base weapons" by which I mean being able to take a Longsword and change it to 3d6 damage. There are plenty of modifiers available for making magical weapons, but these always need to select the base weapon, the properties of which apply to the magical weapon too.
Well, my original plan was to tune the Laser Rifle to go from a 3d8 to a 3d10, increase its range, and treat the fire rate like you would a Heavy Crossbow, on top of adding a STR 13 prerequisite, or risk getting knocked prone.
My advice is to make a Custom Magic Item, with the following options:
Name: whatever
Rarity: your choice. Common I guess
Base Item type: weapon
Base Weapon: Heavy Crossbow (grants the reload you want, and the 1d10 base damage). Moreover, Heavy crossbow is a martial weapon, which is probably what you want, and it has a superior range than the Laser Rifle ( it has (100/400) instead of (100/300)).
Description: you do you. You should add the STR13 prerequisite or risk getting prone here
Create.
Then, add the following modifiers:
Replace Damage Type: Necrotic? Radiant? Your choice. You can keep piercing as well (then, don't do this step)
Damage: Radiant, 2d10
For the range, I still havn't found how to do it (it might not be doable). You can use a weapon that already has the range you want, but then you have to deal with its damage dice

To add to what Stormknight said, you can also add new properties to the magic weapon, like Finesse, Versatile, and so on.
Thrown might be bugged though. I did not find how to change the range of the thrown weapon.
