If that's a temporary workaround, or the formal way of doing it I'm fine (as wondrous items). I think there is "more" that can be done. However, I haven't seen the ship based system and tables yet.
Also, I'd want at the very least meta tagging for ships so I can take people's published homebrew ships and use them in my campaigns. DnDBeyond's strength is search and granularity that hasn't been seen before. I'd hate for them to lose that over time if they jury-rigged things into pre-existing tools that may not be the best fit for them.

Personally I have homebrewed them as Monsters, since they have hit points, ability scores, and features. The only issue that I've encountered so far is that you cannot give a monster anything less than 1 in an ability score.
