I am surprised that the character backgrounds and themes that you usually get for pre-ordering things aren't available for purchase later.
Seems like an easy way to make a few coins. I get that they are trying to entice preorders, but maybe have them for sale 6 months later (or heck, just included in the preorder as a bonus).
Unfortunately they don't do that. If you miss the pre-order, the cosmetic stuff is lost forever.
Which baffles me. I'd be happy to pay a little bit for the cosmetic stuff. Pre-ordering gets you them free but after that you buy them. This is literally "free profit" - it's something you were giving away anyway that can be added automatically, now earning you money with no extra work being required.
There is absolutely no logical reason why this cannot be added at some point and would provide extra revenue - guaranteed.
All we can do is hope D&D Beyond will add it when they have the time to do so.

They've said a few times they're working on some means for people to acquire pre-order bonus features. It's been insinuated it'd be through means other than purchases.
I agree with this thread, but honestly I'd also just like to be able to preview what they look like. I'm vaguely interested in getting the book so I can have the themes, but, I'd love to be able to see them first.
But yeah - just seems like a strange oversight. Extra money for almost no effort.
Not that big a deal, but my players flipped out when they saw some of the cool effects, so am sure they would ante up a few dollars for the cosmetic effects.

Good to see I haven't missed anything.
