I've tried many times to homebrew items that are just variants of originals. For example, I was trying to make a Kusarigama (which is in 3.5 - it's a sickle with a chain attached to it and a weight at the other end) and wanted to just add reach to the sickle (like a whip) and make it a versatile weapon that when used alternatively would deal a smaller amount of bludgeoning damage. If there was a way to select an item that existed and just change it's stats around (eg: range, damage, damage type, etc) to become something that's just a variant of the original, rather than trying to create an entirely new item based off of one item then have to try to use the homebrew item creator's modifiers that are hardly reflected in the tooltip for the item and even if you manage to pull it off, I feel it seldom reflects what you were actually trying to accomplish. Maybe adding an option in the homebrew section to modify an existing item which will simply let you mess around with it's stats so they will be reflected as simply and plainly as the original.
What you are after can be done pretty easy. The modifier you are looking for is weapon property - reach, finesse, and special. Then describe the special bludgeoning attack in description.
