Hello. I am a blind D&D player and have been trying for quite some time to make proper use of this site and its tools, given that I play online with friends and cannot see well enough to use physical dice and a character sheet any longer. I submitted a request about this issue perhaps a year ago, yet I've seen no improvement at all. And, now I'm completely unable to submit a ticket because the "What can we help you with?" menus don't behave properly with keyboard use. So, I'll post this here:
The character builder is not operable by screen reader users. Navigating the pages themselves works well enough, but the popups that appear when - for example - changing the character's advancement type or even just selecting a race/subrace are entirely invisible to screen reader software. The dialogs are modal, meaning the rest of the page becomes inaccessible. This is fine, but the dialogs themselves might as well not exist to a screen reader. Even hovering the mouse over the text on the screen produces no results. Therefore, the page is completely locked with no escape but to close the tab or use the browser's back button. This also means I can't access whatever buttons might be on the popup to - say - confirm the change/choice.
All popups do this, making it impossible to actually create a character if you can't see the page and use the mouse. I'm putting this feedback here in hopes that the right people will see it and will know exactly where the issue lies. The tools on this site are great, but I'm growing increasingly frustrated with my inability to use them, especially as I've purchased several of the source books in order to use their content in the builder. (I had high hopes this issue would be fixed sooner or later)
Thank you for your time, and please let me know if I can provide more specific feedback.
Best,
Tilea
