I have been working on a Homebrew spell today & stumbled across the fact I can only set 1 HIGHER LEVEL SCALING TYPE for the AT HIGHER LEVELS section.
I would like to be able to pick which Scaling Type each "AT HIGHER LEVELS" entry has.
For example, I would like to be able to set +1d6 Fire Damage at certain spell levels or an interval while also gaining 1d8 Radiant Damage based on Character level instead of the Spell Slot used to cast.
So, a non-multiclass character wouldn't notice, but a multiclass character could cast the spell at lower spell slot levels, but still gain the bonus from their overall character level. (Or save higher level Spell Slots while still maintaining the bonus from how powerful your Character Level is)
I understand that I can just make sure to read the description & do the manual calc. every time, but I'd really enjoy being able to use the cool dice system with such a homebrew skill.
Being able to set all 3 kinds of Spell Scaling effects makes a lot more sense than the current layout. Also, maybe move the At Higher Levels checkbox & the Type dropdown box to the At Higher Levels section of the page...
Idk.. the way certain things are laid out on the website & editors just makes 0 sense to me because they're lacking what would be assumed to be proper functionality from the perspective of the user. (I've noticed other things that I've just worked around in the past, but this one just rubs me the wrong way & irks me why you guys would FORCE the people making HOMEBREW Spells to only 1 progression/ scaling/ at higher levels type. Honestly Idk why you'd guys limit yourselves to that... spell level, character level & spell level intervals working together would clean up the editor, especially optimization sake because setting intervals prevents an overload of a long list, while still being able to gain specifics at certain spell levels without being FORCED by interval & for the sake of multiclassing & certain skills (cantrips usually only use this, but cmon its homebrew, let us do what we want...) so that character level bouses can still be gained even if the spell slot level bonuses aren't.
CURRENT HOMEBREW SPELL BEING REFERENCED: You create three flares of fire & hurl them at targets within range, flame-like radiance descends on each creature struck. You can hurl them at one target or several. Make a ranged spell attack for each flare. On a hit, the target takes 2d6 fire damage. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 radiant damage. The target gains no benefit from cover for this saving throw.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, increase this spell's fire damage by 1d6 for every 2 spell slot levels above 1st. The spell's radiant damage increases by 1d8 when you reach the 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).
~~~~~~ (Currently, I'd have to set radiant damage to gain at certain spell slot levels, but any multi-classed characters would lose out on the character level bonuses.) [The 2 spells to reference that are being combined for this project are Scorching Ray & Sacred Flame.] Yes, I realize it's not a very balanced spell, but the focus here is about how limited I feel while working on my higher spell levels or how my character's level can affect them too.
