I can’t seem to find how to create a sidekick that utilizes the character creation platform without doing serious customization to either the Rogue, Fighter, and Wizard classes. Maybe that’s how they want it? But surely dndbeyond could just as easily create the character trees as another ”class” in the platform so that my players, who as a whole are still learning how to play dnd much less building a regular character, rather than sitting down and custom unchecking boxes to make the sidekick situation work. Is this something that will come in the future? Or does anyone know how to better make it work? I like having all of the characters in encounter builder/combat tracker, so this would be a big help as I dm
You don't use the character builder to make sidekicks, you use the homebrew tools (Sidekicks aren't wizards, rogues or fighters). In order to make a sidekick, at least until there's a dedicated tool, you do the following:
Go to Collection >> Create Monster
From the top section (Use an existing monster as a template), search for your chosen monster of CR 1/2 or lower
Once in the homebrew editor with your COPY_OF_Chosen Monster, you begin applying the sidekick levels as described.
With the addition of the rules for sidekicks in Tasha's, shouldn't there be a place to properly build a sidekick?
Sure - when they finish coding it. But since they are a small team and have hundreds of people yelling about thousands of things they have to pick and choose their priority order. They are working on a system, but as with lots of stuff DDB was literally ripping out the foundation and starting over this past year so some things will take a little bit longer.
Anyone hear of a update to this... Becouse i have a Tabaxi Expert level 13. That is traveling with my party..but I can not update her gear or anything else
Sidekicks on the main character builder feels a bit clunky of an addition. I like the homebrew route (as in a separate thing) but obviously streamed out a bit when they get around to it.

How much longer should we wait for this feature? Maybe another year paid out to a subscription service with fewer tools than most new VTTs on the market?
I suggest using one of those VTTs that has those features if creating and using sidekicks is that important to your group. That being said, I am not sure how Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, or any other VTT handle sidekicks, so you want to make sure whatever VTT you choose are handling it the way you want it to before you buy anything from them. Beyond, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds are also the only official digital tools, so if you pick any other digital platform, I highly doubt they have everything that you want in D&D game right off the bat and you will need to figure out a way to import all the relevant rules and information. I just stick with Beyond because there is simply no better alternative for my needs.
As much as I like Beyond to implement all the official rules and options, there is only so much they can do, and I personally rather have them prioritize epic boons and other feat-like systems before sidekicks.

It would be super cool if they added the sidekick classes to the class options in the character generator
