I am trying to make a rogue using the character builder, and I want my rogue to be proficient in perception, which is allowed according to the PHB. However, when I go to select my rogue skill proficiencies from the drop-down list in the character builder, perception is not shown as an option. Has anyone else experienced this glitch? Does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried restarting my browser (I'm using the most recent version of chrome), but that didn't work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: When I go to select my expertise skills for sixth level, perception shows up as an option, despite how I couldn't have it selected as one of my rogue skill proficiencies. However, when I went to select my expertise skills for first level, perception was not an option. I am now even more confused.
What I think confuses some people is that proficiencies given by backgrounds show up as "<Proficiency> (<background>)" - but ones from race are simply removed. It's two different methods. I think either proficiencies that you have should be removed from the list entirely (all of them) - or they should stay and show their source like backgrounds do. One or the other.

Backgrounds are different though since they can select something different.
Thanks for the help everyone! I did in fact make my character an elf and forget that elves already have proficiency in perception. I agree with Emmber that there should be some sort of indication that you already have the proficiency rather than just having the proficiency be removed from the list, but that's neither here nor there. I don't know how to mark this thread as resolved, but it is indeed resolved!
Well - I mean if someone wants to choose a proficiency twice even though it's telling them they already have it - that's on them. But at least it would be telling them they already have it instead of it simply being missing.
I get why they did it the way they have - but it also does (frequently) confuse newbies.

You must already have proficiency from something (probably race).
Yup, likely your character is an Elf, which grants them proficiency in Perception.
Any time you see a proficiency "missing" from a drop down to learn a proficiency, it's because the character already has the proficiency.

There's a rule under backgrounds specifically on choosing a skill that appears in different sources: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#Proficiencies
