I'm messing about with a Wizard NPC and found a spell book that supposedly gives him extra prepared spell room. How do I set this book as his spell book? I've equipped and attuned to it. While the character is receiving the secondary effect of the book, the extra spell room is not coming into play.
Haven't worked that much with magic items or classes, but I know some items give you X use abilities, same with feats or racial traits...
So, a workaround could perhaps be to instead of adding a prepared spell slot, would be to make the spell book give them X spell/day, for instance it could be Magic missile 1/day, Fireball 1/day and Invisibility 1/day. This would give them more spell slots as well though, and might become too powerful if that wasn't the intention, however if you simply use the "one use ability" from the magic missile as an example, you could just check the actual spell slot for a 1st level spell as well.
If this doesn't work or interact well, giving them a custom made feat that works like Fey touched could also work. The feat is supposed to add spells that you can also cast using spell slots but as it is it only gives you the 1 use on the character sheet so you have to check a spell slot manually when casting it after the first time, which would be similiar to what you'd be doing anyways.
I am a bit tired so maybe I didn't describe it very well, but I hope you understand what I mean and that it would work :)
It's not a custom item unfortunally but I can likely make it into one and try to adapt it in that way. Thanks for the suggestion! Will reply if it works.

Ah, yeah like I said I was a bit tired so misread a bit but yeah, you might be able to work around it that way, if not with items then maybe with feats. Hope it works, good luck!

Many thanks
DDB currently can't support increased prepared spell count.

Ah I see, fair enough.
Thanks anyway
