I'm giving D&D beyond a nice in-depth try with my newest campaign. All players & DM are using it to manage characters and so far we're very much enjoying the ease of character management.
There's just one thing that's bothering us: The tool keeps separate tabs on what pieces of each currency we have. Sure, I can imagine some more realistic campaigns wanting separate counters for this so that characters might need to visit a bank or some shady exchange shop to turn their thousands of copper pieces into some gold.
However, we're not really worried about that. If I decide to reward the party with 100 CP, it's fine if that shows up as 1 GP on their character sheet. Similarly, if I have 10 GP and want to pay 2 silver and 5 copper, it would be useful if I could enter that as amount and hit deduct, and then have the tool automatically deduct 3 GP and add 5 CP so that I don't need to do the conversion myself.
Is there a setting somewhere to enable this? Perhaps in a campaign's settings? I've been looking but can't find it anywhere.
The automatic converter already exists. It's called "a brain".
Sorry for snark but this is a level of conversion taught to 6 year olds. If children can manage this I see no reason why you need the already busy and overworked devs to invent a system for the sheet to do it for you.
Or just, ya know, stop giving them copper and tell them "you get X gold" instead. Or just only use gold and copper. Gold is like spending dollars, copper is like spending cents. Conversion is the same as real world : 1 gold = 100 copper. So since you can do this in real life, doing it in D&D is fine. ((Actually real world currency is actually more difficult than D&D currency in most places due to the greater number of coin/paper denominations)).
"That'll be 2 gold and 70 copper" = deduct 3 gold, add 30 copper. Simples. Don't need a new system for that. Pretty damn easy and given that D&D rarely uses specific values (it costs 1 gold, 1 silver and 7 copper" -- yeah they usually dont put this in adventures and you shouldnt either), so the vast majority of your mental coin maths should take less than 2 seconds.

Thanks for your reply. I entirely agree that the math isn't difficult at all, but it's still two steps where it could be one. I just think this would be a small quality of life improvement.
I'm not saying the devs must drop everything they're doing to help me tap my phone a few times less.
I don't think saying that the math is easy is an excuse not to implement it. None of the D&D math is particularly difficult but we all still very much enjoy this tool that does some of it for us.
I'm sure there's a quality of life backlog somewhere, I simply wanted to bring this up so that it might be added there in case it's not yet.
I’m new (well if you don’t count almost 35+ years ago) to DND and brand new to DNDB. I was the only user with my iPad in our group last night. This was an issue that had me scratching my head when I tried for the first time last night to remove 5s from my 15g in my very first transaction via DNDB and that led me here to this post today. If the deduction of 5s from 15g and 0s is not possible without removing 1g from the 15g and adding 5s to the 0s then why not just have the different coins fillable since we already have to do the math. Maybe add option to see transaction log in it’s place. I have brought my wife over to the DNDB dark side after seeing what I was able to do with the character sheets in our first run. I haven’t told her about the coin issue yet. I might wait to see if she says anything.

It already does.
You can adjust coins by either filling in totals to override or by adding/removing. You can do it both ways already.

One of the reasons that it doesn't automatically convert everything to gold is because not every campaign has the same valuation on gold.
Additionally, not every campaign ignores the mass of currency. Meaning a bunch of coins has weight and takes up space. Some campaign ignore this others do not.
YES there are adventure in which you find literally thousands of copper, silver, and electrum. The dungeon isn't going to automatically change them into gold for you.

Thanks for the video. As soon as I saw the character sheet in the video I knew I wasn’t hallucinating. I haven’t tried this via website before. I have been using the mobile app on my iPad and iPhone. It does not allow for me to fill in the currency as shown in the video in the app. It only allows you to add/remove currency in the app I am using from the Apple app store.

You are absolutely right. As a Software Engineer, considerations for User Experience (UX) are not limited to performing difficult calculations. One metric used to determine a good UX is number of clicks something takes. I'm sure the developers have a huge backlog and this type of thing tends to live in backlogs until/unless enough users (or product owners) promote the ticket. It would be nice to allow an option (campaign or character) that allows this to happen.
I echo this request and agree that this would be a VERY nice quality-of-life option to have!
It's not about difficulty of math; it's about ease of use (especially for new and/or young players). If I tell a new player something costs 4 copper at the beginning of a campaign (when she has only gold coins), I'd prefer to be able to immediately move on with the game rather than wait or be interrupted upon the player (1) figuring out that she can't just put "4" in the copper spot and hit "Remove"; (2) confirming the conversion rates of gold to silver and silver to copper; and then (3) doing the conversion herself.
An auto-conversion/change-making optional feature would be a welcome addition for many---even some of those who are excellent at math. :) Personally, I think such a feature would further benefit from being able to set the preferred coin denomination, such as gold. That way, it would automatically convert other coins such as platinum, extra silver, etc. to gold for eas of quick reference. Allowing for quick reference to each player's total gold value would streamline things nicely. While some tables may like the realism and granularity of tracking and/or converting different coins, for me and my players, doing so is just an extra step that doesn't add anything to our play experience.

That's fair, but surely this can be a campaign setting just like whether or not to use encumbrance mechanics.
