in that when I attempt to print a PDF of my character directly, the Chrome download fails with a name of "Bakra O.xml" and "Failed - Forbidden". When I copy and paste the URL ending in PDF into the browser URL bar, I get a similar display to his, namely a bit of XML in the form:
Unlike him, when I attempt to create and access a character short link, that works... i.e. I get a URL that will show my character.
In a possibly related issue, I have joined this Character to a Campaign and am told by the campaign creator / DM that he can see my character name listed, but cannot access my character sheet via the campaign. I can access my character via the my campaign page and I can see other character's sheets. Others can also see my character via the short link.
It's like my character is wandering back and forth across the Ethereal Plane and can't come out.
Thanks, naruhoodie. You would think if the dang site has issues with the characters, it wouldn't allow the characters to be used, and definitely wouldn't suggest the "#". The space is at least partially my fault (I should know better), but the "#" came from a suggestion from the site in response a request for something else. Grr.
it works. So, clearly the issue is the bad characters in the URL. The problem is that I've changed my Display Name, but the URL didn't change. Will this happen after some database update?
I thought I'd add to this conversation that a newly created character (after the display name change) has the same problem as the one already in use before the display name change, with the original display name still in the file name of the PDF.
I opened a support ticket and got a response that there is an actual username (different from the display name). Support changed my username to one that didn't have the awful "#" in it, and voila, problem solved.
So: Display Name change, not good enough. User Name change actually fixes it.
I am having a similar issue as in the unresolved and 6-week-old post

You'll need to change your display name at this thread: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/65846-display-name-change-request-thread-v2
This site's code doesn't like spaces and special characters (#) in display names.

Okay, well, I got my name changed. No spaces, no #. It shows properly here and in the upper right corner of the web page. I logged out and back in.
However... still no joy on the PDF. The URL displayed still has the OLD NICKNAME, complete with " " and "#".
If I hand edit the URL provided by the web page, to wit:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/Bakra O#88452_102072764.pdf
to UrlEncode the blank and #, and get this
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/Bakra O#88452_102072764.pdf
it works. So, clearly the issue is the bad characters in the URL. The problem is that I've changed my Display Name, but the URL didn't change. Will this happen after some database update?
Well crap... I should have code tagged the URLs. YOu can't tell what the second one is supposed to be:
Did you regenerate the PDF?

If by "regenerate the PDF" you mean:
then yes, I did. If there's something else needed, then no, I did not.

I am unable to export characters to PDF, I never had an issue until today. Any suggestions?
What do you mean "unable to"? How do you try? What happens when you try that? Have you tried anything else?
When was the last time it worked?
Have you added changed anything of note (especially descriptions or allowed content) since then?
