I'm running a campaign on here, and one of the players is playing a Human Warlock and wants to take the Grasp of Hadar Eldritch Invocation from Xanathar's; however, only the 2024 handbook invocations are available in character creation. We have Xanathar's and other books shared, and selecting subclasses and spells from those books works perfectly fine for everyone in the campaign. So why are the Eldritch Invocations not available in the character creation? I understand we may just have to note that he has it, but it would be nice to be able to select it.
Is this a level 1 character? 2024 Warlocks technically get an Invocation at level 1, but you're only allowed to choose from 5: The three Pact Boons (R.I.P., Pact of the Talisman), Armor of Shadows (at-will Mage Armor), and Eldritch Mind (Advantage on CON saves to maintain concentration on spells). That may be the reason, in which case maybe just wait until reaching level 2? The only other thing I can think of is that he doesn't meet the requirement of having the Eldritch Blast cantrip.
if you scroll farther down on the class list youll see the legacy content (2014 rules) classes if you have legacy content on. xanathars and the like are only applicable to 2014 classes.
I figured that's the case, I just find it weird because the subclasses and spells from those books work perfectly fine on 2024 versions of the classes.
It's a level 5 character, he has Eldritch Blast and the Agonizing Blast invocation. I did a bunch of testing and no matter what I try, the non-2024 invocations won't show up on a 2024 Warlock. But that Warlock can still take Lightning Lure and Booming Blade perfectly fine, despite not being in the 2024 book.
Yeah, this may be the deal breaker for my two warlocks using D&D Beyond. Ones a Hex blade and has thigns like wandering hex. They built their entire character around some of the Tasha''s Cauldron of Everything (TCoE). And since TCoE is a lot closer to 5.5e than the legacy rules it is really surprising that they were not included for the 2024 Warlock to select Invocations from. All I can figure is Hasbro is going to reprint the subclasses and feats in the replacment for TCoE and does not WANT you to get them for backwards compatibility.
