I've been working on a homebrew species trait for skill proficiency options. I've set up the build and selected the option to "choose a skill". Everything seems to be working properly with the trait showing up under the species option and a drop down menu is available to choose a skill. The only problem is that not all the skills are on the drop down list. For some reason the list is incomplete and the specific skills I'm trying to make for the species are not available. I've adjusted the options and modifiers in several ways and nothing seems to work. The trait I'm trying to make is "You gain proficiency with two skills of your choice from Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion." If I adjust the modifier to choose from Wizard skills I get a completely different list than what the PHB lists as Wizard skills. If I choose "choose a skill" then the skill list is incomplete. I've even tried switching to other options and I still get either incomplete lists or lists that do not match with the PHB. Reviewing homebrew guides does not give me much information and the set up seems to be linked incorrectly. It would be nice to build it up and then others can use it with drop down menus instead of just writing it in. Might as well just go back to pen and paper if that's the case.
I'd bet that the "missing" proficiencies are ones that your character already has from another source. Additionally, the wizard list should match the 2014 PHB, so if you're comparing to the 2024 one, then Nature would also be missing.
If none of the built-in groups suit your needs, though, then I'd recommend using Options for this instead. Set each of your available proficiencies as its own Option (e.g. Arcana), and give that Option the correct Modifier for that choice. (e.g. Type: Proficiency, Subtype: Arcana).
I was thinking the same thing, but some of the choices I've made are also on the list of skills. (edit) you were right, the two skills I chose in the class build section were removed from the list in the species "chose a skill" drop down menu. So I guess it's working correctly. /thumbsup
Thanks for the tip. I'll make the adjustment you suggested to the build. Your idea seems like the best work around.
