I was looking at a unarmed weapon and came across the description stating while you wear the wraps your unarmed strikes get a bonus to damage and that “Those strikes deal your choice of Force damage or their normal damage type.” I believes the wraps are called wraps of unarmed power or prowess (they are two different items but im not sure which one is which) when it says this does it mean all of the damage of the unarmed strike or just the damage bonus? i thought it might be the ladder but it doesn’t specify the extra damages “normal type”
The ability to choose Force damage instead of the normal damage type applies to all the damage dealt by an unarmed strike.
If an item or feature adds a damage bonus without specifying the type of the extra damage, it's assumed to be the same damage type as the rest of the attack's damage. For unarmed strikes this is usually Bludgeoning, but some species have features that change it to something else.
The "Power" and "Prowess" items are essentially the same thing. The "Power" version is the newer version, from the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide; it's the one that actually changes an attack's damage type to Force. The older "Prowess" version from The Book of Many Things doesn't change the damage type, but does say that the attack counts as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance to non-magical attacks.
The 2024 rules updates largely removed this type of non-magical-only damage resistance, and features and items that used to make an attack's damage count as magical mostly now change the damage type to either Force or Radiant instead. I have no idea why they changed the name in this case, though.
