My players have been practicing using tools to become proficient, how do I or they add profiency to the tool set on their character sheet?

In the "Proficiencies and Languages" box you should see a cog wheel in the bottom right-hand corner. In the sidebar that opens up, you can add new proficiencies direct to the sheet.
