For users in the European Economic Area, their account may have been deleted during D&D Beyond's transition to Fandom if they did not previously opt in for the transfer of their data.
If this is the case, they will have received a free nickname change credit at the end of the deletion process. With that, they can change their nickname to whatever they desire and all of their characters, posts, comments, etc. will be maintained.
So, this happened to some of the users in my campaign. One of them upon trying to log in found his username changed to user-number.
