I am working on a piece of software to support DMs and help run the game. I would like to add a feature that lets the DM view select D&DBeyond character sheet data inside the program. For that, I would have to automatically retrieve character sheet data from D&DBeyond in the background. Is this permitted? Request frequency would be quite low, a few requests every 5 minutes, similar to a DM refreshing player sheets in a browser.
Possible to get some clarification on this? DnDBeyond still has no API, and it is really limiting their product if we cannot write third party tools to incorporate character sheets and other content. Avrae obviously queries DnDBeyond content, but I'm not sure who actually runs it.
They have mentioned they have made the deliberate choice to not support this at this time.

I don't need support, I know how to extract information from the site whether or not they have a proper API (although it is a shame they don't). My question is whether or not they are okay with apps extracting information from their site, since stuff like Avrae already does it and is obviously being backed by DnDBeyond.
You misunderstand my meaning. I don't mean supporting you specifically, I mean supporting (i.e. make available / make possible / allow) what you are requesting.
Avrae is exception because they own Avrae.

There are only two external tools, both of are owned by D&D Beyond, that can pull data from the site; Avrae (formerly a third party bot, then incorporated into the D&D Beyond team) and the Twitch overlay (made by D&D Beyond).
D&D Beyond doesn't offer any official support for 3rd party apps, extensions or bots, nor does it currently offer a public facing API. However, a public API is on the roadmap.
Welp, guess I'll keep the feature for private use until DnDBeyond comes out with an API, although I don't have hopes. Shame. Thanks for the information though.

Thanks!
I'm have trouble downloading my character sheet.
It will download with all my character info but when I go to print it's just the sheet blank
I think this is a separate issue, you should open another thread for that.
