Hi! Me and my party are switching from 4th edition to 5th edition. I played a Bard that I'm going to try and transfer as accurately as possible to 5th. So I wanted to pick the College of Valor, the most suiting college for my character, but I can't select it in the character builder! The only option is the College of Lore. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
EDIT: Here is an imgur link with the problem that occurs. Image
Hi Stormknight, thank you for answering so swiftly! Yes I am aware that it is in the player's handbook. I was just wondering why I am not able to select it within the character building tool provided on this site.
As per my post, you need to purchase the Player's Handbook (or just the College of Valor subclass) on this site, to be able to use it in the character builder.
Yes I saw! I would like to get it but prefer a physical copy, so that the party can freely look up stuff at the table. Is it possible to buy a physical copy and then register the book to the site, to get the use from the character creation tool?

In short - no. There are a number of reasons that this isn't feasible, primarily because this website is owned, developed and maintained by Curse (not WotC) so they gain none of the money from you buying the physical book.
There are a good number of discussions about this across these forums.
At this time, all purchases on D&D Beyond are for content on D&D Beyond only. Unfortunately, there is not a way to unlock the digital content if you have purchased the books. We realize and understand the concerns over re-purchasing content, but the material in D&D Beyond is in a different format and platform.
Because of this bizarre set-up, I believe both companies are losing out. I don't want to purchase the digital version because it costs almost the same as the physical copy, which I already own. And I don't really want to purchase the physical copies from wizards of the coast if I can't integrate them in to my digital game..
Wtf guys.. You want us to buy both copies just to play D&D, when most material is available in PDF for somewhere on the internet anyway?
There has to be a new marketing strategy that both companies can come up with that boosts sales without making your fans and customers double purchase content and material..
It's unethical imo.
Also I notice a Subscription doesn't even offer the base books. It only unlocks software that's still in Beta and home-brew content. How can you charge for access to material that was made by fans and not developers? Home-brew should be open access and a subscription should get you at least the three base books. You may get more subscriptions that way and less players using only the free content and supplementing with the real books.
Are you creating your character within the campaign that has sharing? You only have access to shared content if the character is already part of the campaign.
If you did join the campaign with the character and still can't access the shared content, have your DM toggle content sharing off and then back on again.
No they wont let you print you D&DB book or get it as a PDF. Nor will they let you use it online because you own the book, even though space shifting is recognized in the US as a legal use of a copyrighted book.
DOn't let them kid you. Lots of other companies do these things. Its simply their business model that they want you to have to buy it twice.

Thank you for your post - we appreciate people taking the time to give us feedback.
The College of Valor is in the Player's Handbook.
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.

Ah I see now. Sorry! Thank you for your time and help.
No problem!
There's a sale on for Cyber Monday (today only) so the books are currently a third off! :)

This question, and many others, are answered in the D&D Beyond site FAQ.

Ah that's too bad! Well, I might consider still buying it. It's an incredible tool that you guys built. Makes preparation for playing so much easier!
Hmm. . .
Stormknight, do you know if anyone's considered allowing/enabling the printing (for private use only) of books purchased on D&D Beyond?

I too have this question. I have had the PHB shared with me, but the College of Valor still doesn't show up in my list of options. Now what?
