The creator of a private message thread should, I think, be able to remove people from that thread. Here are some examples of situations where it would be useful, taken directly from my own personal experience.
In the OotA PbP I'm playing in, some time after the game had started, someone who will not be named wanted to join. The DM added them to the OOC private message thread, but a few days later, the DM determined that they would not be suitable for the campaign. The DM was unable to remove them and so had to create a new OOC private message thread.
In one of the PbPs I've finished recruitment for but haven't started yet, I decided, as an experiment, to use a private message thread for OOC. One of the people who was going to be in it never gave me a character sheet, never posted to the recruitment thread or private message thread after the initial post, never told me they were going to be delayed, and didn't respond to my private message asking if they were still interested, so I decided to drop them--but they're still in the OOC private message thread, so I have to make a new one unless I can remove them.
I think it would also be helpful if you accidentally misspelled someone's username when sending out a private message to a large number of people.
