We were told that starting May 19 the adventure Lost Mine of Phandelver would be free on D&D Beyond. But now I can't find it at all, not even for purchase. What's up?
For anyone still looking (like me), this is now redirected to the Dragons of Stormwreck Isle. Instead of allowing people to keep trying the Lost Mines, you'll have to find a third party pirate copy of the adventure because WOTC doesn't understand that they could *sell* the module once they're no longer giving it out free...
I swear they don't want money any more, they just want to break things.
If you look at the Table of Contents for the original Lost Mines of Phandelver and the Table of Contents for Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, you will notice that everything that was in the original module is there in an expanded form.
For example Goblin Ambush is in Chapter 1, Phandalin is Chapter 2, The Spider's Web is Chapter 3, and Wave Echo Cave is Chapter 4. There are then 4 additional adventure chapters to expand the story of Phandalin.
Hope this helps, as I was trying to figure out why we could no longer get the module from the Original Starter Set any more.
So they got rid of the ability of those who had claimed the LmoP original starter set from using it in the campaign builder by removing it from the premade campaign selection page, just so one would have to obtain it again by having to ether buy it again, or wait till it’s free again.
One of the many small things yet again loss to corporate profits.
The way I look at it is that they built out Phandelver and Below as a more robust campaign setting for level's 1-12, and a good entry point into the Forgotten Realms, and reposition the Starter Set as simply a one-off introduction to the game for non-players or for teachers using D&D as a teaching tool in an elementary or high school setting. If people want to proceed beyond Phandelver in the Forgotten Realms, they can extend their campaign with Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
Essential Kit is then positioned for players who are interested in the hobby but aren't ready to dive head first into the full rules and the expanded multiverse. Instead of the Starter Set, they do low level using Dragon of Icespire Peak and lead into Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, and Divine Contention, which doesn't end up being a huge investment if they find at the end it isn't for them or they want to homebrew. Then if they really want to continue with the characters they developed in an official campaign, they can delve into Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
I think it makes sense from a business and player standpoint. Start Set is clearly positioned for people that may want to only try the game one time. Essentials Kit is position for people who have an interest in starting the hobby and maybe continuing with a longer term campaign. Phandelver and Below is then positions for groups that possibly have ended a campaign and want to start over with new low level characters in a different setting than they have played before.
No thanks, I’d rather keep what I had. No reason they couldn’t keep it and not force a rebuy of a rebuild when the first model was still perfectly useable.
I don’t run adventures in hours, i run them over the course of at least one to three months, if not longer, just so players can have days of fun and excitement.
Just to clarify - while I believe it is the case you can no longer redeem/purchase the original Lost Mind of Phandelver intro adventure, if you previously acquired it, it should still appear in your owned adventure list. You are correct it no longer appears in the "Premade" Campaigns list from the "My Campaigns" page, though. So it still sucks if you never got it in the first place, but if you had it on your account you shouldn't have lost access.

Actually this really does.
100% if they'd simply changed the listing on the Marketplace Page to:
This adventure is no longer offered as a free starter. It has been incorporated into the complete campaign guide for Phandelver and Below for those who want to explore what lies beneath the town of Phandalin.
Instead of:
This promo has ended.
Then the understanding that I can still find it, would be so much better. I'm currently running Dragon of Icespire Peak, and intended to do Phandelver and Below with new characters for the same players, but reading the 3rd party sources of Lost Mine, thought it would be good for doing all of the different stuff around Phandalin. I miss the days of being able to read more than just the contents list before deciding what to buy, and their blurbs are really quite useless to understand the setting of the campaign book.

I managed to grab it while the free claim was up, same time as interest in what the alpha VTT was.
I used it primarily as a beginners guide to D&D mechanics and social interactions, hard to do that on a moving ship in the middle of wherever.
I even have all the other free adventures, and CoS full advent. I’ve even converted older adventures to 5e and used them as beginning player tutorials.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, like a thief in the night …..

Excellent, thank you! It appears now. I guess I just needed to wait a few days for it to be applied to my account.
