Hi. This isn't super important and I don't know if I should even bring it up, but some things involving making monk characters are kind of buggy. First of all, I wanted to make a monk wearing armor and it's unarmored defense stat overrode it. Second, not all simple weapons count as monk weapons. I wanted to make a firbolg monk that swung a greatclub and it used strength instead of dexterity. and finally, third. You cannot mark a weapon as a dedicated weapon. I had another monk, the one with the armor, that would use a trident, but i couldnt mark it as dedicated. Like i said, these aren't big deals. Just little quality of life improvements to character creation. Thank you for reading my rambley mess.

This one is an issue imo and there might be someone who can give a better answer than me, but I do know the way the AC mechanic is set up, is it will automatically select the option that provides you the best AC on your sheet regardless of other factors. (It's setting your AC to unarmored defense because it provides a higher AC than your armor does) But wearing armor as a monk is silly, because it completely negates most of your base monk abilities. You can't use Martial Arts in armor. (Idk if a subclass allows you to use Martial Arts with armor and I'm not going to bother looking over each subclass to check)

That is correct. A monk weapon cannot have the two-handed or heavy property and a greatclub has the two-handed property, so it is not a monk weapon.
Martial Arts
At 1st level, your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use unarmed strikes and monk weapons, which are shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don’t have the two-handed or heavy property.
and finally, third. You cannot mark a weapon as a dedicated weapon. I had another monk, the one with the armor, that would use a trident, but i couldnt mark it as dedicated.
This one could be a few things. First, Dedicated Weapon is an optional class feature from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (so I believe you would have needed to purchase the book to use the feature). Second, you'll need to activate optional class features on the homepage of your character sheet.
And lastly, Dedicated Weapon makes the weapon into a monk weapon, but does not provide proficiency for the weapon, you need to get proficiency for the weapon from another source. Monks don't get proficiency with tridents nor martial weapons by default.
Dedicated Weapon
You train yourself to use a variety of weapons as monk weapons, not just simple melee weapons and shortswords. Whenever you finish a short or long rest, you can touch one weapon, focus your ki on it, and then count that weapon as a monk weapon until you use this feature again.
The chosen weapon must meet these criteria:
The weapon must be a simple or martial weapon.
You must be proficient with it.
It must lack the heavy and special properties.
Incidentally, it seems you can make a greatclub into a monk weapon via the Dedicated Weapon feature. It doesn't specify it can't have the two-handed property like Martial Arts does. If your weapon meets all the requirements, you'll see a checkbox for dedicated weapon on the weapon. Which is extremely annoying, because on the 17th of July, it will have been 4 years since I asked if we could get a checkbox for the Eldritch Knight's bonded weapon. Pact of the Blade warlocks can tick their pact weapons, monks can tick their dedicated weapons, but Eldritch Knight fighters still can't tick their bonded weapons.
thank you so much! I didn't realize all of that stuff and now i feel stupid, but it makes sense in hindsight. Thanks for helping me figure it out. I also just wanted to say that the dedicated weapon thing was for a trident after taking weapon master feat. I wanted to make a general of an elemental city, and give them armor to boot. I knew it would be giving up movement, but not martial arts. So I probably won't do the armor thing. It was for an npc anyways. And I'm sorry about the bonded weapon thing. That's sad.
