So, the character sheet as is is useful, but i also kind of hate it. Everything that isn't the inventory or spells is pretty much just a wall of text that is mostly the same color and size. This is even more frustrating by the fact that the area with the most details (spells, inventory, actions, features, etc...) takes up anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 of my screen, max.
I understand keeping things nice for mobile and tablet users, but i think that
1: most desktop users probably have a 16:9 monitor and- 2: more importantly, i think we can make it better for everybody at the same time even if you don't make a sheet that can use all that space
My main idea is moving around of some elements to allow the area i mentioned before to be the full height of the screen as well as collapsible features, attacks, spells, etc... that have icons. I think this makes everything nice and concise, streamlined, without losing any detail AND the icons make things quickly recognizable and fineable, saving enough time to make it feel much more refreshing. I've made a mockup of this for an old character i made, I hope this can get some traction or acknowledgement.
There's a really interesting dichotomy, in that we want it to be as clean and easy to read as possible, while providing all of the information that players/DMs could need and also being accessible across all devices from small phones to 4k TV screens.
It's not a simple thing to pull off, but we're considering a lot of ideas.
Thank you for your feedback and ideas - appreciated. 😊
Long term, I want us to be able to deliver a much more customisable character sheet that focuses on surfacing what the player wants to know.
Thank you for the reply! And yeah, trying to appeal to a wife range of devices can be complicated and pigeon holing in sure. You all do a pretty good job imo, look forward to what you do!
This would take a lot of sandbox time, but depending upon how the divs are rendered, this may be able to be achieved through your existing adaptive css for larger monitors while leaving the default view in place for smaller screens. That mock-up looks pretty sweet.
This is cool I really like the collapsible stuff. The positioning of stuff I'm not fully sold on but I like the idea of making the more used spaces larger.
I will say I play on 16:9 and have much more screen used on my end. Though I full screen it (F11) and have the sidebar locked out all the time and it fits rather nicely. See spoiler. This would be a pretty big undertaking in my opinion but probably has good value. Good job 👍

Thanks! and yeah, the positioning is mostly whatever as I'll get used to it, what i want most is just collapsible stuff and a bigger area for all of those juicy features and stuff

Mockup of my proposed new layout

and an embeded version as i didn't know that was an option
This looks great!

I'm glad to hear this, StormKnight! I agree with SlincFox' points. I get frustrated with the character sheet layout on a laptop.

Also I wanted to say your dragon pfp is pretty ^^

How to get your dice to look like the ones in my profile picture and a full site dark mode.

This layout is very friendly. If what Stormknight says is indeed the direction they are trying to head...
Using this mockup, or something very close to it should be something they are actively trying to add.
Great proposal!
