I really would love to see the option to have them accept webm or mp4's to allow animation of the map. We have so many map making programs that can produce this kind of map.
This please oh please. I actually have to go the extra hurdle and turn my webm files to a static png from other VTT's that I've used when I'm trying out Maps
A search for Animated Battlemaps will bring up a few channels that have them. Shorter videos work best with Beyond Maps seeing that they the file needs to be under a certain size, I believe its 100 mb. (Don't hold me on that exact size) Longer videos from AnimatedBattleMaps tend to be around 1.5 hours and are too big for the Beyond Maps to use, but you could probably edit them down to a shorter length on your own and use them.
I appreciate it. I was having a hard time finding a combination that I'm looking for, but I did find a few on youtube. Which was great. IF I can get a word to the DNDBeyond team, maybe having an animated overlay (snow, rain, travel motion, etc) that we can lay over other maps we've made or uploaded. I'm currently working on a snowy scene of a wagon being pulled by axe beaks that has a similar movement as the pre-loaded Boat animated Map. That's my favorite, and is great for those long traveling sessions which involve either a chase or deep RP session for character development. Maybe in a future update.
What would really be nice is if we can "fog" some areas for animation. Then we could have an interior of a hut for game play, and snow storm outside. maybe.

I'm too dumb to know how to make animated maps, where to get them, or how to download one from YouTube. Is there a "How To" guide or somewhere I can research that anyone knows of?

Making animated maps can be quite labour intensive, as you're literally making an animation. However, there are lots of creators on patreon that make animated maps you can download in the supported formats (mp4 and webm). I would advise against downloading them from youtube as that's largely against YTs terms of service.
As you roll out the Map option. Just wondering your thoughts on enabling Animated maps?

I'd like to see animated maps if only to have animated water under boats or crackling energy in the background, maybe a gif upload in the future?
So, now that we have animated maps, where do you go to get maps that aren't going to cost a $40 a month subscription?

You can get a bunch on Youtube for free.
